Megs #16 - An Apology

A couple of weeks back I was bemoaning my experiece with Megs products, in particular how #16 killed the flake on a Civic I detailed.

Today I had enough time to give my car a couple of coats of wax to see me through until the Christmas holidays. Looking round the garage the only paste wax I had at home was the tin of #16. So I figure that will have to do, at least it'll protect until I get something I like to replace it.

Two coats later & I was left speachless, the paint looked fantastic & considerably better than anything else I've tried. Really deep & wet with superb reflection, "Click & Brag" good in fact.

So can I apologise to Meguiars for my earlier post, #16 is now my #1 & I've stocked up with 4 more tins of the stuff to keep me ticking over. I'm off out for a drive tonight just to see the street lights reflecting on my bonnet.

#16 is an okay wax but I think the Pinnacle line is much better in terms of performance and ease of removal.

These things tend to be personal preferences sometimes as some like clarity over gloss or vice versa.

#16 will give you a solid 3 months of protection, Pinnacle is lucky to go a couple weeks. Though I'm not argueeing which one appears better (though I honestly couldn't tell a difference), but durablity has to factor in.

interesting, how could the thought of a wax killing the flake on a paint job pop into one's head in the first place. :cooleek:

I used #16 for the first time on a black monster F250 quad cab last weekend... I had no issues at all with removal.

I agree. I love to wax so durability is a non issue for me. #16 is great in durability and shine.

Hogwash. With good prep, Pinnacle will last a month or two. I did not get any better from #16.

I dont want to start a debate but Ive gotten 3-4 months out of #26 with proper prep and normal abuse... I havent tested durability on #16 yet but from what Ive heard its better.

I have a hard time believing Pinn Souveran will last 2 months with the same abuse... of course thats IMO.

Souveran will bead a good 3 months around here, but the killer depth only lasts 6 weeks or so, then it just looks great instead of superb.

#16 lasts an easy 4-5 months for me. Stays slick a long time too.

That is what I have observed repeatedly when applied over a layer of AIO as recommended by David Bynon's Perfect Shine method.

I think it is rare for any carnauba to last more than 3 months, especially in summer months. I think the chemicals just break down over time. I think we saw this in the Guru Reports tests. Perhaps with a good regimen of QD like Crystal Mist or the like.

Which would you say #16 better provides, the clarity or the gloss? (personally, I think those two terms are mutually-inclusive, and a better distinction would be be "gloss" or "depth"; "warm" or "wet")

+1 on #26. I'm not sure how exactly everybody is rating durablity but the last time I waxed my truck was with #26 about 6 months ago. About 8 months ago I polished it and put on a 2 coats of #21. I topped it with #26 two months after that, and I wash it maybe once a month. Its black, still looks wet, and water is beading very well (again, washed every month or so, nothing else, no quick detailers or boosters, nothing). I'll take a picture in a minute since it just rained out.

I've only been able to get 3 months out of Collinite 845 during rainy summer months where I live-and it's pretty tough stuff.

For #16, some gloss and no clarity.

For Souveran, deep gloss and some clarity.

For Zaino Z-2 Pro, deep gloss and high clarity.

#16 has been in my arsenal for something like 17 years now. I always used to use it in the final few days prior to winter setting in and it would last 4-5 months in the Wisconsin cold, snow, salt and the crud winter roads bring around. Pinnacle never made it though the winter on my vehicles. I think the appearance is very close to being indistinguishable from each other. These days I top my sealant with #16 in the winter for that added protection.

Sad that #16 is off the US market but I stocked up. :)

I beg to differ on #16s ability to show "some gloss and no clarity". I would have to say that #16 has high gloss and extremely clear clarity.

If you dont believe it take a look for yourself in my recent "click and brag" thread.... please take note of my self portrait in the passenger door panel.

BLACK Ford F250

I think that proves #16s ability to show gloss and clarity, and that it does it superbly.

#16, great gloss, good clarity, great depth and warmth

Soveran, great gloss, good clarity, greath depth and warmth (probably a little better then #16)

Zaino Z-2 Pro, great gloss, outstanding clarity, plasticy depth and no warmth

Of course thats just my opinion.
