so on a couple of cars now, I have had this problem with 151...user error or product/clear combo issue???

what happens is after I am done working the product with the PC and a light-medium polishing pad on speed 6, you can see the trails where I went over the paint...not buffer trails/holograms, but it looks like this on the paint:

)))))))

(((((((

)))))))

(((((((

I have to go back over it super quick with the pc and pad to remove the marks because a QD wont work

whats my issue? I have only had that problem once before with poliseal, pc, speed 6, on a cutting pad, in direct sunlight, on a hot day with black bmw paint where I left the product on the car too long. but with 151, I am working a section, then wiping it off right away :help::help::help:

"Pigtails". Think of them as the DA equivalent of compounding marks. I've had pigtails left from a LC yellow cutting pad so nasty that it took a rotary, black edge wool, and HTEC to get them out.

It is more than likely being caused by the pad... IME, pigtails are caused by using too harsh of a foam pad for the softness of the clear you're working on. I'm guessing you're working on a really soft clear? You might want to try a no bite pad and see how it works. Pigtails can sometimes be caused by a heavy compound and a DA, but 151 hardly qualifies as a heavy compound.

The one thing I really like about the new non-diminishing abrasives (which includes 151) is that you can still get a lot of correction out of them, even with a really gentle pad. Just add a bit more pressure, then back off on it when the correcting part is done.

Let us know how it goes?

Yeah, it was... which really makes me wonder why, no matter what I do, I can't get it to finish out with a rotary without crazy holograms. At least I'm not alone... there's some pretty big guns that have had the same problems with the stuff. But so far, IME a DA will finish out 151 much better than a rotary. :nixweiss

no its not pigtails at all...I know what those are, and what I was trying to describe is not..

its kinda like applying wax with a pc...you know how you can see the ((((( trails, but with a wax it wipes off....it doesnt wipe off with 151!!!

Must be your technique or pads because I don't have that problem when I use a rotary with D151.

have you tried wiping it with some solvent?

Oh. It's gotta be a thin layer of dried polish then, right? When I use 151, I use a ton of it, and stop working it when it's still wet, leaving a "just waxed" type layer behind to dry. After it passes the swipe test, I remove it.

Good to hear. However, you might want to add some additional holo checking whenever you do a car with 151, because it really is easy to get holos with it.

Like I said, I've never had a problem. I use the Z system (forget what it stands for). Start at 900 then 1200 then 1500 and back down again.

Zenith point method.

Please don't take offense at what I said... I'm not implying that you *have* had any holo probs with 151, I'm just stating that it is a product with a reputation of leaving holos, so you might want to throw in a sun or sun gun inspection on a car that you would otherwise not inspect in the sun if you use 151.

I try to do a sun inspection on every car I do, but some it's just not possible.

I inspect every car I do. :2thumbs:

I use 151 on a PC with either an orange or white LC pad. Up untill last week, I'd never had any issues like the OP had - then I did a black VW Jetta. It looked great at night under the lights, the next day in the sun - OMG! I had to use my QD on steriods from MS to get those marks off, and it took some elbow grease too! I'm thinking either the pads got too dirty, shoulda done an IPA after claying, or the stuff I used a few weeks before had fillers that came back to mess with me.

Unfortunately, I didn't do a sun inspection on the first car I used 151 on... A black Acura.:o

I figured, "Hey, I'm just using Meg's new single stepper, and I'm using it exactly as the directions say... no way I'm gonna have holos, right?"

I've been seriously considering a Sun Gun purchase ever since. Most of the time, I finish polishing cars in the evening, and the owners don't want to wait til the next day to pick them up, so I'm stuck doing inspections with incandescents, fluorescents, and a Brinkmann. None of them are holo finders. :(

My sample bottle and gallon of D151 says can be used by hand, DA or rotary

I have used it by hand on a car, got great results. Used by PC on my g'f's bbq grill. Came out great as well.

I am doing a gold Honda Civic this Saturday and was going to use D151 with my PC. Hopefully I wont have any issues, but will report if I do if any one cares.
