Me no like white paint any more

I've owned several white vehicles (mostly by random chance), and even even though it looks kinda lifeless, I kind of liked them for their ease of care, but I'm really starting to dislike white paint mostly because many manufactures are still using single stage paint on white vehicles. Most people don't even know they have single stage paint on their white rides till it's about 4 or 5 years old and starts to become dull and chaulky...it's really miserable stuff. My damn Tundra needs to be buffed every few months now if I want it to at least look glossy - I don't know why they are still using this stuff (SS paint).

Ryan, I am doing a quickie detail on a 94 white accord coupe. The white paint looks like chalk. Not even green with with P1500 polish will cut threw the chalk in one pass. Tomorrow I hit it with yellow wool. But there is not paint transfer to the wool or foam pads that I have used on a test area so far.

To get it this cleaned up, it was the following on the metabo:

ZAIO via white LC pad x2 took some of it out.

ZPC via white LC pad x1 better.

ZPC via orange CCS pad better yet.

Presta 1500 polish via orange CCS pad got it good as the pic shows.

Then I take the p1500/orange CCS pad combo and start on a new area. Might of cut out half.

Green wool/P1500 on a new area, just a little better then half.

You couldn't pay me to take a white car. It's just such a boring color IMO. My first car was white and no matter how much I polished or waxed it; it never looked that great. However, as you pointed out if left untouched it looks just as awful as any other color.

I wonder if they are using single stage paint on the current honda/acura models? I know for a fact that a lot of customers are complaining about the mismatch on the bumpers on white Acura TL's.

LOL! My beater is a 93 accord wagon with SS white paint. I polish it once a year and it *always* oxidized!

For my "nice to me" car I bought(and purposely sought out) a pearl white Infiniti M45--obviously it is BC/CC. I love the pearl white on the car, but on other cars it bothers me. I guess for me the color in a car depends upon how the lines look, etc.

I like the look of some cars in white, but overall, I would never own one. I own two black vehicles at this point.

my last three cars have been white, silver, and now black. when i had the boring white and silver cars i thought never again, next car will be black. now that i have a black car i'm thinking, damn i miss the cars i could wash with my eyes closed and make it look good. the clean black car definetly blows anything away, but it seems like if i look at it too hard it'll some how get mard.:wall i actually still have my 98 white monte carlo, work car. it's actually looks as good as the day i bought it, no fading or chalking at all.

i don't believe that anyone is using single stage paint. not for about 10+ years now. correct me if i am wrong. i have been buying new cars since 1974, maybe 45+-. all have been and are white but hey, i'm crazy like that. 07 vette/white, 03 avalanche/white, 05 CTS white diamond.:2thumbs:

You mentioned Tundra and white, and so here goes my WHITE TUNDRA. i LOVE IT. I dont know what issues you are having, but mine SHINES!

every car you've owned has been white, thats awsome! great now your making me question my last purchase.:LOLOL

:xyxthumbs

I love my whites. They're really not that hard to get looking good and keep that way. And I even have crappy GM paint (camaro).

I can't stand white either. When we were first married my wife and I both had white cars. They both got tons of rail dust that I had a terrible time with. Of course that was before learning about detailing.

I owned only black vehicles since 1977. This year I switched to white. I can't figure out what took me so long.

My wife had a 2004 Accord Coupe that was SS paint. Dumb.

Not true. Many many models are still be produced with ss white paint. My Tundra is a 2002 and my wife's 2004 Accord Coupe were both ss paint.

I agree. I guess I feel okay about critizing white because I've owned several over the years. I like black.

Yeah, looks good YoMike. But look people, if you like white that's fine - problem I have is companies continue to use ss white paint, so after 5 or 6 years you have to frequently buff the paint to keep it looking decent to keep removing the oxidation that forms.

It's a crappy picture but here's my mom's '91 LS 400 that had only been detailed a couple times in its lifetime by Lexus and finally by me before selling it two years ago...

You can't hate on that paint...
