Matte Wheel Coatings

I`m looking for some feedback on matte wheel coatings. I`ve got a couple of products in mind, but I`m hoping someone can recommend a coating that they`ve had a good experience with. The candidates are CarPro CQuartz DLux, and Gyeon Q2 Rim. I know Dr. Beasley`s makes a matte wheel cleanser and a wheel seal, but I think a coating is going to be more durable. T

I have Pinnacle Black Diamond Wheel Coating, but I`m looking for a product specifically to protect matte wheels.

Any input would be appreciated.

I know you`re looking for comments about experiences with matte wheel coatings but I`d like to offer the counterpoint of those speciality products may not really be needed.

I have a set of OZ wheels for my summer tires. OZ claims the finish is matte, but it appears to be more of a satin finish, not much different than the finish those BMW wheels. I applied the "standard" CQuartz paint coating (not the UK version) to my wheels before I mounted them on the car for the first time. There was no appearance change to the finish on the wheels and the product has lasted two summers worth of driving and still appears to be protecting the wheels.

Not every finish is exactly the same, but the wheel coating you have, or are interested in, may serve you just fine without having to look for a specialized matte product.

Thanks Desertnate, I really hadn`t considered that as an option. I guess I got caught up in the Matte Finish Craze!

A couple of reasons I`m considering a specific coating for matte finishes. On my old BMW, I had dedicated winter and summer wheel setups. That gave me plenty of time to properly prep the wheels and coat them with the Pinnacle coating. It didn`t need to last for more than 8 months. However, I recently moved from the Northeast to South Carolina and I sold my old BMW and ordered a new one. There`ll be no need for winter tires, so I`ll only be dealing with one wheel setup. I viewed the Pinnacle coating to be a middle of the road coating. More durable than the sealants, but not as durable as a true coating. I figured if I was going to go for a true coating, I might as well look into one that`s made for matte finishes.

Most of the wheel coatings will work for a matte finish. It will give them that rich look.

I’ve used Gyeon Rim on matte wheels with success. It was in a set of Harley wheels and the bike was not ridden as much. But it did look good and made the wheels easier to clean.

DLUX and GTechniq C5 are good options. Gyeon Rim is a tad more hydrophobic.

Thanks Guz, I may give the Gyeon Rim a shot.

Is Gyeon Prep a must or is CarPro Eraser sufficient?
 
Some like to toss them in a bucket with APC or microfiber detergent to clean out some of the material and salvage the towels. Some toss them out. You could try to salvage the towels and if they come out crispy after a wash then toss them.
