Matte coatings

Hey I`m doing this from my phone so if this ain`t right spot then please move. Has anyone used any matte coating that worked well and how does it work on shiny paint if it gets on it?

IMO the matte castings are more about marketing and a way to get you to buy another product. I`ve used several different paint coatings now on matte paints and none of them add gloss, but will darken the paint slightly, some more than others. Matte paint is still clear coat, it just has flattening agents added to it.

It`s not. I had this discussion with another detailer a while back too. Coating matte paints has it`s risks with potential high spots and appears to be a one shot deal at this time. But, IMO a coated matte paint will be better protected then a non-coated finish and look better in the long run. Regardless of whether it`s coated or not you can`t do any paint correction and having it coated will be better protected against staining, etching, and also be resistant to chemical cleaners like Tarminator and IronX type products.

We need a thread on taking care of matte finishes. It`s kind of like Alcantara fabric. Just not enough knowledge in one spot. You don`t need it until you really need it. Lol
 
RaskyR1- Yeah, the whole "how to maintain long-term?" thing really has me scratching my head...I`d kinda lean towards thinking it`s simply gonna get marred up to some extent no matter what. I mean, I can go quite a few years without any significant marring, but sooner or later something always happens and I`d sure hate for it to be forever.

Too bad as I`ve *always* liked the idea ever since reading about the "battleship (flat) gray" of James Bond`s Bentley (in the original novels). A pal of mine did his Nova in a flattened *silver* (LSPed with TR3) and it was just sooooo cool IMO.

I have celeste Dettaglio from chemical guys its nice there buy way too expensive..i got it as a mystery gift on an order a long time ago

I`ve also used polish angel rapidwaxx on a matte surface and use it on my spoiler and vinyl decals on hood

Poorboy`s spray and wipe is good there too or McKee`s 914 rw but neither leave protection

I have gyeon q2 matte coating and matte cure but never used them

if I had to choose od go with spray and wipe for maintenance and rapidwaxx for protection on matte/satin

the McKee`s vinyl stuff is really hard not to recommend as one product only though

In my situation, I`m specifically looking for something that will provide some resistance to abrasion, even if it`s minimal. That`s the reason I keep coming back to thought of using a coating on that surface on the motorcycle.
 
tom p.- I`d lean towards a PPF made for such finishes. Otherwise I myself would just let [Real Life] take its toll and consider it Patina.
