I have less with 500 feet from my shop a self serve 8 bay car wash faclity. coin operated. I have gotten to know the owner well. He showed me an article in the lasted Car Clean magizine that was titled, Self serve car wash, in house detailer, a marriage made in heaven. We both thave been thinking about partnering in some way to take advantage of both facets of our business. I want like to know if anyone has done this, considered this? and if you think a merge of some kind would work. we both have enjoyed success in what we do, but I see potential to expand, just wanted some ideas from pro's if this might be something to seriously consider, and how to go about it. Thanks

Sounds like a natural fit to me. Why not give it a trial run for one summer with no strings attached.

The problem I have is figuring out the financial arrangements, we have a great relationship now. I promote his car wash at my clinics (one of the few places using fresh water) and he lets me come over when I'm not busy to talk to his customers about car care (plus I sell my micro fiber towels at the same time) but as far as working together beyond that, not sure.

If it were me, I would just leave it as it is. If he's putting in a good word for your services, and your sending some business his way, that's already a pretty nice deal. When it starts going further than that, you can END a "friendship" in a hurry.

You are your own boss right now, don't start letting somebody start dictating how you run your business.

Just my two cents (from experience)!

Very good point.

Althogh i agree with Boss... Why can't you split rent and expences but still be sole owners just use each other. You would increase his customer base and vice versa. I agree with Natty try it for a month or more with no strings attached. Worse case It doesn't work out and you make a agreement that during the trial run you support each others business and keep friendship for after hours.. Besides you could always run your cars through his car wash...

Just my 2 cents but If you take no risk no rewards will follow...

I have seen vending machines at bowling allies that sell bottles of cleaner and small boxes of tape that might work for the small bottles of sealant and towels.. just a idea...:)
