Today I was detailing a 19' boat, I did bit finish due to the rain. Anyway, while working the cleaning lady show up at the house, says she the boats looks good. Later we talking and she asked if she could give my card to her clients. I gave her business cards. She cleans home worth atleast 175k+. It remains to seen if anyone calls.

Has anyone used the method?

I think if:
1. One can afford a home of this level, one should have nicer cars
2. Afford to pay for a cleaning lady on a weekly basis, afford to pay for detailer every few months
3. Hire a cleaning lady, no time to clean house or car.

If these houses were in Rockland, they easily would be $350K+. Just a different a cost of living. Being close to NYC will do that.

That's one reason...my taxes can gag you , but we do have pretty good service and schools:)

I also have 3 year old twins and a wife who wishes she could live in a mall:eek:
 
That does it! I'm moving!
$175k will get you a condo in the getto
$300k will get you a little 2-3 bedroom fixer-upper
$500k for a nice 2400 sq/ft house

But to answer the first question, yes, I give cards to all sorts of people so they can give them out. I only do word of mouth advertising and I let my clients know this.

I grew up in NYC and NYC suburbs. The homes may be cheap but the taxes are outrageous! At least in Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties. Not to mention having to deal with salty roads and shoveling snow. Maui prices are ridiculous too. My home is close to 500K and I think it is assembled with twigs and bird spit. But it beats shoveling snow and city traffic.

Am I complaining???? Hell no! I live on Maui! :cool: :D
 
$100k here will buy you a danged nice house. $500k will buy you a house to rival The Osbournes.

And there are a few 1 million plus dollar homes here. All of them are former owners of homes in downtown San Franciso (inherited). They sold those tiny little flats, moved here, and built dream homes.

I guess you haven't been around here lately....Westchester 400k +, Rockland 375+, Orange...which used to be cheap ....250+
otherwise you're going to get a money pit...

don't forget about the lawn guy...the snow removal guy.(no one shovels driveways anymore....the baby sitters ..etc...

I was back there about 2 years ago. A good friend of mine bought a 2900 square foot house with a finished cellar, 15,000 square foot lot in a nice area of westchester county for 550,000. Here you get single wall construction (havent seen a cellar in 17 years) on a 1500 sq ft house with 7,000 sq ft house for 400k in an OK neighborhood. But as they say you pay for paradise! :cool:

Where abouts do you live? I am familiar with most areas within a 100 mile radius of the city.

I'm in West Nyack ..near the new Palisades Mall ...by the Tappan Zee bridge....

Some friends just sold an old ratty house on rte59(main road) for over 400k and are moving to the Poconos to a new house and his wife won't have to work anymore with the profit from the house....it's gotten rediculous here too..fortunately i got in just before the price boom and am in the best school district in practically the whole state...my house has almost doubled in value in 5 years...if it continues..Paradise here we come:cool:
 
Is paradise the Poconos Poorboy? Or are you talking about the islands? The Poconos have really been getting popular the last 10 years or so with all you city people :D heading my way.
 
Not me brother....the Poconos are too far away from real civilization and everyone is moving there causing more traffic and stress on the services , like schools...hmmmm maybe i should move and go back into teaching:rolleyes:

I need to check out the Palisades mall one of these days, but I worked at a store in Carousel Center. I do not like going to the mall, only when necessary.

I am also, doing word of mouth because I am doing this part time. So, any help I can get is worth it. By the way the cleaning lady does good work and has been with her clients a longtime and works by word of mouth.

One more thing, I do not like working on boats. I will do them, but only for a premium. If one can afford a boat (toys), one can afford to maintain the boat.

LOL no kidding. There are dogs and cats romming around on these rope type things. Someone could get hurt in those dangerous suburbs!
 
LOL @ Boss....hey i got deer , woodchucks, skunks and I used to have a fog in my backyard :D and i never gave any discounts for referals other than thanks;) again each of these people could buy and sell most of us 20 or 30 times over...so a discount or free wash would seem trivial..but if you're doing the general public's cars then you would be better off having a customer card in a file or in the computer and keep track for them...I can't ever seem to find those punch cards when i need them or that grocery store discount card that's always on the other key chain...blah blah blah ...ok I'm rambling:D

You certainly don't have to worry about wild animals! One look at your legs in those shorts your wear, and those poor animals will be "headin for the hills"! :D :D
