man made global warming a Hoax?

I can't watch that crap. Powerpoint is a terrible means to express your ideas. I skipped around and saw no emails or anything like that just He said she said. Me personally I would rather err on the side that something is happening. Better safe than sorry.

Global warming as a scam, more and more leading researchers are coming forward and presenting data that points that out. Do some research and you'll see or keep drinking the OwlGore Koolaid and be one of the sheeple.

And for us 50 and over, we remember back when the chicken littles in the white coats were crying we are going to have another ice age.

Penn State is investigating Michael Mann over this:

Michael Mann first of climate change scientists to be investigated

Man-made global warming...oops, I mean climate change (they changed the name since the climate wasn't following the computer models) is a creative way for scientists to get funding and politicians to raise taxes. Al Gore, the Pope of Global Climate Change stands to make billions of dollars over all this. Follow the money...

It was on the cover of Newsweek back in 1975. As Scott says 'Follow the Money.'

I think we should destroy the economy because Al Gore (who invented the internet and was the basis of "Love Story") says we should. The internal combustion engine is a bigger threat to the earth than Iran going nuclear.

Mike (had trouble typing this sarcasm)

I've always thought that the climate was just changing, like it's obviously done for a LOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNG time. Like during the ice age.

Except now, they've found a way to make money off it. Our money.

Whether it is a hoax or not, we still need to work on conserving our resources and do better to help the environment out. Just my opinion.

Unless we study the data ourselves, it would be difficult to determine whether there is any bias or fraudulent activity going on w/in these studies. Personally, I think there is something to the climate changing and it should be of concern to the "world", not just the USA.

Two things you should keep in mind and for those of your who are say, in you twenties, it will be hard to have this perspective.

> There will always be opposing sides to controversial positions & people trying to refute data, especially in academia (or other highly research oriented endeavors). And, there will always be someone trying to "profit" from something like this topic, even under the name of the common good. But, the subject is too large for outright fraud & the number of people with access to the information. This isn't like Iraq and whether they had WMD's. You can see the weather yourself, all over the world without the CIA/NSA having to disclose it to you. In my opinion, these email correspondences that leaked are probably as much about the "crying" that somebody's opinion wasn't respected, as it was around factual disputes.

> Second, for those of you old enough to have lived through a few more decades, use what we in technology call "the test of reasonableness". Do you think weather patterns since you were a child have changed or not? Do you think that the deterioration of glaziers, Antarctica/the Arctic, data from NASA & NOAA, plus the international highlight on the subject are frivolous? For a reasonable person, I think NOT.

Of course, that's just my opinion...................I could be wrong! (But probably not:))

See ya. :wavey

The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen COP15 in December has been billed as the world's last chance to stop global warming. Al Gore canceling his speak and hand shaking seminar for 3000 Danes just might be the tipping point of no return. People 2012 is all to real.

In the immortal words of Rodney Dangerfield, "Let's Dance"

I'm scared that we're basing our decisions on people who can't tell us (accurately) what the weather is going to be tomorrow. How many "major hurricanes" were supposed to hit the US this year?

Now that we know that there has been manipulation of data (besides the obvious placing of temperature sensors next to asphalt, outside air conditioning exhaust ducts, etc), I think "the science is settled" crowd needs to reestablish its proof.

Honestly, I'm a lot more scared of socialism than I am over this crap. Don't agree, check out some stories on medicine and indivual freedom coming out of the UK.

The global warming scam is an extension of socialism, basically a way to redistribute wealth.

Politics are in everything, as well as, ways for people to profit (or succeed with new business ventures) when crises or challenges occur. I think I would be a lot more afraid of the real effects of a changing world climate. As far as the redistribution of wealth goes - somehow I don't see this tied to anything socialist in nature. The data and facts will bear all this out. NASA, NOAA all have data that shows what the changes are and it's not pretty.

If, by socialist, you're speaking of health care in the UK, it is a lot different than the US. There is a government based system plus other company provided/purchased insurance that allow people to go beyond what is provided by their gov't system. Public hospitals & private hospitals, for instance; different levels or kinds of service, so to speak. Not sure that it's better or worse than what we have here. If you haven't had a major illness or medical crises, you don't know what you're up against even in this country. I know - I have and I do well and am well insured. I have no idea what somebody would do w/o health insurance in this country.............for people who don't have or can't afford it, it is a disaster! That's not to say we should pay insurance/benefits to everyone who is not a citizen; that needs to be fixed by regulating input. But, if you are in the position of not having, you'd think a lot differently. And, I sure don't want anymore taxation or reduction of my wealth either...........but, the former topic is going to cost us, just to adapt and survive. Speaking of which, you don't need to look at Europe for differences. Canada is substantially different, as well.

Interesting that we never saw this in the paper or on TV:

NASA has now silently released corrected figures, and the changes are truly astounding. The warmest year on record is now 1934. 1998 (long trumpeted by the media as record-breaking) moves to second place. 1921 takes third. In fact, 5 of the 10 warmest years on record now all occur before World War II. Anthony Watts has put the new data in chart form, along with a more detailed summary of the events.

This from DailyTech, after it was discovered the NASA data had been applied to the wrong formula.

Interestingly, a study by NASA this summer showed that all planets in our solar system are also warming, due to the sun's activity, not man made global warming! According to NASA, we are "between Ice Ages, so the warming now is nothing more than the cyclical change of solar activity."

Remember, Greenland used to be warm enough for the Vikings to have grape vineyards there....now it's ice. The fact that it is slowly thawing doesn't mean it's hotter due to man made warming. Did the Vikings have SUVs and other polluters that caused Greenland to be significantly warmer 1,000 years ago?

Those longships emitted a huge amount of greenhouse gases! :)
