Makita Rotary Question

I should be recieving my rotary on Friday or Saturday and I'm getting the Makita 9227CX3. I know it has variable speed setting and I believe that on 3 the speed is something like 1500. My question is if I wanted to polish at 1200 how would I know I"m at 1200? Do you just hold the trigger halfway down to achieve only 1200?

My second question is can I spur foam pads to clean them or should I just replace the pad when needed? How do I know when I need to change pads...? Any additional information is more then welcome.

TIA

I thought autogeek on there little table said 3 is 1500 but o well. Timmah what do you mean by you run it at 2.3 that isn't an actual speed setting is it? you do that with the trigger?

Sorry, I was off a little, 2=900 and 3 = 1500, and like MM says you can use variable speeds inbetween each setting. However, I usually always am at three except for spreading, and I never burned through paint.

Nah, I only use the trigger for startup - ill feather it a bit to get the polish spread out, instead of changing the dial to 1 and then cranking it up to the desired RPM.

As for 2.3 - there are 3 clicks between 2 and 3, 2.3 is the first of em.

Thanks Timmah that helped alot. Now to just convince my girlfriend that of course its perfectly safe (so I can use it on her car first) and think of a reason why I don't want the first time using it to be on my car :).

I see you want to be an ex-boyfriend. :rofl

I don't spur them, the get rinsed under the tap and I dig out the buildup with my nails

Then after I've finished a car, in the washing machine they go. Triple rinse after washing (on gentle setting)
