Makita or Flex?

I've decided to buy a DA polisher. Further, I've decided to jump right in and start with one of the more expensive products. Now I'm having trouble deciding between the Makita BO6040 and the Flex XC3401VRG.

I have 4 vehicles: 1994 BMW 325is (black), 2006 Corolla (silver), 2006 Boxster (silver), and a 2000 Ford F150 (dark blue). The 3 small ones are in pretty good condition, but the F150 is hurtin'.

I've never used either a DA or rotary polisher, but the Ford provides a good test bed to practice on. The Ford is also the one vehicle that probably needs a rotary.

Are there compelling reasons to buy one DA polisher or the other? Is the rotary action of the Makita really equivalent to single mode rotaries? Also, does the Makita use the same backing plates as other DA polishers?

I'm sure there are a bunch more questions and considerations that I can't think of, but I would appreciate any information, advice, or enlightenment you can provide.
