Makita BO6040 with what pads?

Firstly, I'd like to say hi :wavey

I've been planning my first 'proper' detail for some time now. My initial plan was to get a PC from the USA then buy a step-down transformer to use it in New Zealand (we're on 240v), but then I stumbled across a secondhand Makita BO6040. Jumped on it because it was cheap and was 240v.

I've got the products sorted, but what pads should I be using? The Makita looks quite different from the PC, the head is closer to the actual pad. It uses a 6 Hook & Loop backing plate.

Would it be ok to use 6.5" pads? Or should I use 7.5" pads to give me more protection on the edges?

If the answer is 7.5", are these suitable? http://www.autogeek.net/curvededge.html

I'm just wondering if the curved edge will mount as well as the 6.5" ones here: http://www.autogeek.net/vcpad.html

Congrats on your purchase! The Makita is an great machine. I have used on for sanding at a tool demo and it was great! I just wish it was more affordable. I think the 6.5 flat pads should be fine. The extra .5 inch should give you enough extra edge you need to prevent bumping the polisher into the car. I don't think that those Wolfgang pads would work since the backing plate recesses into the pad. Call Autogeek to check since they sell both the pads and the Makita.

I have a Makita 9227 rotary and love it...the answer really depends on the backing plate. At 6" then 6.5" pads should be fine. I like the Lake Country pads the best.

Thanks guys! I sent Autogeek an email on the day of your posts and still haven't heard back  The Makita has arrived and works fine.

I'm definitely going with 6.5" LC pads now. Do you know if the variable contact pads have velcro backing all the way to the edge? The normal flat ones seem to be a safer option in the sense that I can't see why it wouldn't fit onto the Makita.

And if both fit, what would you guys recommend? I've searched all the VC threads but it seems to be 50/50. I'm sort of trying to get everything I need from PakShak at the moment, but they only carry the VC pads, no flat ones. The ones from Autogeek which are Wolfgang, but made by LC seem to be flat (zippymbr, are you sure it recesses into the pad? It looks flat to me). I would still get them ordered from Autogeek if it's necessary.
