Hi everyone, I've been looking into a rotary after using a PC. I found the Makita 9227CX3 which is the Makita 9227, bag, two pads, and both handles for $154 with 3 day shipping included. Do you believe this is a good deal and would this be the best value for the dollar in terms of a rotary. I'll be practicing on my parent's old beater. Anybody know if junkyards will give you scrap panels for free? I've also seen people recommend different size pads. What should I go with, I was thinking 6.5, same as the PC.

junkyards no, but a body shop will!

you can start with the same pads you have for the pc

that's a great price. I just ordered one. Retails for $170 but now thru Oct. 31 you get $25 off plus free shipping.

Thanks for posting.

I've heard many people recommend the Hitachi. However, most of the recommendations seemed to be based on the price being significantly cheaper ($100 at the time). Since, the price of the Hitachi has gone up to about the same price of the Makita, do people still recommend the Hitachi? or should I just get the Makita for $154.

my Grandfather gave me his used makita about 8 years ago

now I don't use it all that much but when I need it works great!

yes this is the tool you want.. buy the makita

*I* would take the Hitachi again even if it were $20 or so higher than the Makita. I've used them both and they're pretty equal. I'd doubt that you could tell the difference between the two in a blind test. Key for me is that the Hitachi gets the 5 year warranty.
