Makita 9227c

I have been looking to acquire a new rotary to use as opposed to my current dewalt. After reading a thread regarding the 9227c, I started to look into it further. would you all agree that this is the right move? Also, does anyone know of any specials or packages availiable for this unit? I saw a few of AG, but I am curious if any of you might have some advice to offer. I also use edge pads on my dewalt, are there any pads that you would prefer over the edge pads while using the makita? Thank you!!:thx
 
The Makita is probably the most liked rotary. You cannot go wrong with it. As far as pads I personally prefer the OEM style 6.5" CCS pads by Lake Country. I also have some of the 7.5" mushroom cap pads which I personally dont like too much.
 
I was in the same dilemna.... looked around....found a good deal (at least I thought) on eBay.

They include a pair of the Mechanix gloves (large), a nice big 7-8" white polishing pad (looks like a LC CCS), and some Makita labeled towels (very thin, useless looking but they have the Makita logo :hmph: )



It's all brand new and already packaged up from Makita. Shipping was fast from this seller.
 
It really depends on what direction you're really trying to go in. What is your Dewalt not doing for you? I have both. I personally like my DeWalt alot more than my Makita. However I have been using the Makita alot more than the Dewalt lately due to new techniques I've been developing. The makita is not a bad polisher by any means It's a great polisher for finessing things and giving that gentel touch when needed. The DeWalt is still by far the work horse and will tackle any correcting and tough jobs. I think there's a solid place for both in any detailers tools of the trade.

I feel that I may be in the same boat as you on this one. Honestly, I gather from reading through the many threads that the Makita is as you stated, "a great polisher for finessing and giving that gentle touch when needed." The dewalt seems like it will be the Cowboy, and the Makita will be the sweet southern girl... haha.. From people I have asked, the Makita is also not as loud, and easier to handle being that the speed settings are diff from the dewalt. I don't know what your thoughts are on that but I would be curious to hear them. Thanks for the 411!:bigups
 
Any pad recommendations for this machine... I have been using edge 4 inch pads on my dewalt...
 
I would set up the DeWalt with wool pads for the the "heavy" work or compounding and use the Edge pads with 4" and 6" diameters for medium polishes and finer. That gives you the best of both worlds. The speed of the wool when needed and the finese of the small foam pads to finish without changing anything.



I use 3M wool and edge foam on two Makita's and you would be surprised how much time can be saved on jobs when both can be used.
 
IMO Edge pads are much easier to control since they are perfectly centered / balanced better. That's what I've been reaching for lately for rotary use.

me too, I enjoy the wool and waffle pads, thinking about getting some four inch for the tight spots
 
When you guys are running the 6 or 6.5 inch pads what size BP are you running?

I have seen the 3 3/4 BPs but is that safe to run a 4 inch pad with? That only leaves 1/4 inch of space.

I just used for the first time, 3 3/4" flexible backing plate with my 4" CCS pads and Makita and I could'nt stop smiling as I was working. :D I loved it. I got my bp from a friend who had no idea why he even had it. I also agree with the dewalt being the workhorse but have no problem using either one. I would buy which ever one you find for the best price. Good luck. (And get yourself a small bp to use the 4"ers.:waxing:
