Makita 7227C

I was scared skinny, when I put this to my truck's hood on Sunday morning. Saturday I didn't have mich success using my PC and DACP to feather in some color & clearcoat I had used to repair some stone blemishes in the paint. The 7227 did in 5 minutes what the PC failed to do in one hour - both attempts were done using DACP and Meg's burgundy pad, then Meg's Swirl Remover 2 on yellow pad followed by Menzerma's FP on white pad. Hood now appears to be completely scratch/swirl free AND the new paint is nicely blended in. Followed with AIO and it just sparkles. Unfortunately, no pix, but that wasn't the point of this post anyway.

Using a rotary is not that scarey now - especially since I watched Meg's video on repairing paint blems, twice. (I wonder if my air compressor can) drive a DA air sander..... OP is really starting to get to me)

Wife wanted me to use the 7227 on her beater Buick and it really brought back the shine - except for the scratches and places where tree sap dissolved the clear coat. THESE I highlighted with some AIO. After viewing, she wanted me to do all of the car, but it started to rain.....

Gonzo, you mean Makita 9227, right?

There's no question the rotary polisher is going to handle "problem" areas much more rapidly and effectively compared to a machine like the Porter Cable. I did my first complete job using my new 9227 (CX) this past Saturday as well. There were a couple of light, concentrated scratches on the trunk lid of my car that I have given up trying to remove as they were barely visible. Since I got thru the entire task so quickly, I decided to break out some more aggressive polishes and just take a shot at that scratched area. Gonzo, like you said, they disappeared in a flash and the paint is as new. The PC was unable to deal with these marks.

The newer hi speed machines, with variable speed control and the great new selection of LCM pads, are approaching "fool-proof".

I stand corrected :o Awesome machine!

Although I did notice 2 things:

1) As the DACP was breaking down, but before it was "dusting" I noticed that it would occasionally leave some caked on product streaks. They would buff off, but then leave others, but all would come off with some MF wiping. I am attributing this to the fact I may have used a little too much? :nixweiss Any one else notice this?

2) When using the Swirl mark remover and the FP, the foam pad would "squeek" on the paint towards the end of the buffing cycle. This I have attributed to working it too long. :nixweiss Anyone?

Gonzo, I noticed a similar situation when running the DACP...some product would cake up and stick...took some effort to remove using a MF plus a little water mist.

If FP is good enough for a $60000+ Mercedes, it will do just fine on my OP'ed $32K Lightning (at least until I get it an OP-free paint job).

However none of the "wizards" have jumped in with commentary on the 2 "issues" I mentioned. Did you get "pad squeeking" when using the FP? Did you prime pad with only FP or use some other kind of fluid? Did you polish until it was dry or quit when it was a little wet?

When I used the PC, DACP reduced nicely to the "dust" stage and I could take the FP to virtually nothing there.

I ordered mine today from Coatal Tool and the flexible backing plate from CMA! It's my birthday on December 3. This was my present!

I have plenty of the 7.5 LCM pads to go with it.

That Makita carrying case is sold at Bed bath and Beyond in New York City (next to my office) for $19.99. I'm going to get it! They have a tool department!!

Man, Bd Bth & Bynd is coming up!:D

I got the Vector Pro from Proper Auto Care for $99.00, now on sale for $69.00. 11 amps, 7lbs., slightly heavier than the the Makita by .4 lbs. I love it. Something to look at if your budget won't allow you to spend the $200. for a Makita.

Believe it or not, Autozone had these Vector units for $49.00 a month or so ago. Don't know if they still do or not. Pep Boys had them for $59.00. They may not have the features or long-term durability of the Makita, Dewalt or Porter Cable 7428, but for the price, that is pretty hard to beat for someone who only will use it a few times a year.

$69, that is a STEAL. Makes me want to get one! I will stop by the autozone down the street and see if they have them for $49. If so, I am getting one!
