Making extra cash during a tough economy....

After reading a thread started by Justin Murphry, I thought I would share.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I were at a local Golf Course. After we finished 9 holes my friend made a comment about the golf cart having a bunch of water spots and very light scratches (tree branch type).

The following day I call the Golf Course manager, and scheduled a demo for him. I showed up and did a demo for them and they noticed the difference. Now I'll be doing 10-15 carts a week @ 75.00 each. Their fleet exists of 88 carts.

Sorry the pictures aren't too detailed, I had the manager over my back the whole time watching the process.

I used:

Body -

HD UNO (1st pass HD Orange Pad - 2nd pass HD Blue Pad) 1000rpm Dewalt

IPA wipes in between passes

HD Poxy (HD White Pad) Number 2 on my PC

3D Waterless Carwash. Ragtime Microfibers for pre-clean and final wipe

Seat and Trim - 3D L.V.P. to clean seats and trim.

HD Gel to shine up Trim

All together about 30 to 35 mins a cart. This will help me fill in time slots on slow days and cancellations.

Again bear with me it's my first post with pics:heelclick

Nice job dude! Very sharp of you to come up with the pitch. I am heading to play 9 holes in a hour. I will try to get the pro to give me a few and do the same. ;)

Good idea! I've done golf carts for a few apartment complexes.

My main problem isn't the economy (Texas is adding jobs!) but the weather. Just been terrible for 14 months now, usually with rain starting Thursday through the weekend. Now that the pattern is shifting to La Nina instead of El Nino it is drying out and my phone won't stop ringing! :)

Did you tape off all the black plastic or just burn it with the buffer?

In this case no need to, the plastic body cleans so easy if you stay away from the trim ( I think your talking about the trim right, the whole cart is black plastic) you can use a foam applicator to touch up the edges. Do you burn trim?

Thank you Scott, my problem has been the wind, these last couple of weeks but it snowed yesterday at 4000 ft outside Vegas. Snow in May :nono

Yea 90days off a 100+ degrees is what they are calling for this summer

Not a bad idea for extra income, I did a golf cart once and I used M-105, M-205; however, the cart you did looks pretty good...I will probably buy some of that HDUNO to do a boat this weekend??? , have you tried those products on boats?? If they work on golf carts, I assume they will do a good job... Where can i get some of that stuff.

I am from Tulsa...and the weather has been a HUGE problem for me. When it is dry, I have more work than I can handle sometimes BUT people do not want their cars cleaned if it is going to rain...

I have been trying to market a different way...talking about preventative maintenance....instead of clean a pretty....

damn now that is a swell idea LoL. Golf is a big thing out here. Might have to hit up some golf courses.

So you just called the golf course and asked to speak the a manager? You then asked him if he wanted his golf carts detailed?

Awesome!

I used m-105 & m-205 in the past and their good products, but I been using HD-UNO for the last couple of months, It seems to be what I reach for first, I get the same results at a faster pace. I picked up the Uno during a free detailing seminar at a local 3D store in Vegas, the salesman are great, plus a 20%off coupon made me like them more!!! Try the HD website sometimes they run good sales. I just did a boat not that long ago for a customer that was selling it at a boat show. Same products HD-UNO HD-Poxy and 3D Waterless.

The last picture you can see scratches on the vinly stickers, I couldn't do anything about that. Thanks Hope that helps and good luck in the business.

Great, that's some serious side money! Also consider that they'll be easier to clean in the future after you've detailed them so it will probably take you even less time the second time around. :)

I told the manager, the carts look in bad shape and maybe i could help, his respond was "yeah its like the Bellagio Casino sending a Datsun 210 to pick up High Rollers". Mahalo nui loa!

Been really brutal around here. First 15 days of October had 13 days of precipitation for example. :hairpull

La Nina usually takes care of that problem though.
