Major paint problem on trunk, paint missing!

The G/f and I went and got groceries yesterday. When she was getting things out of the trunk of my 2002 mustang GT she closed the garage door which hit my trunk (which was still mostly open) and took off paint in a nice I would say egg size and shape on my trunk panel. Its down to the primer in that area and the rest of the trunk is fine.



Needless to say I was upset at best. So I need to fix this and on the cheap as I don't have spare cash for this now. I have repaired straches before using the method in the article section and it works well. So I am thinking even on a somewhat bigger area it can still work yes?



What I am thinking is use my touch paint i have cover the area in 2-4 coats of touch up paint, then sand with 2000 grit and polish it out. I do not have a machine polisher either as of now as my old one I had died. So this leaves me with my hands so I hope I can polish it back with the Poorboys products I have.



What do you all think? Do you think that would take care of it?
 
In a pinch, give it a shot.



I would suggest M105 by hand though, over any of the Poorboys products. M105 is INTENDED to remove 1500 grit sand marks by hand.
 
I don't have any M105 so Poorboys is where its at for me. I have the 1.5-3 SSR's so no worries there.



As for the repair I sanded it smooth and the color does not match at all. Thanks to duplicolor for making a product that does not match well at all.



Does anyone know if the Ford touch up pens match better?

Its a mineral gray GT, the photo in my avatar is my car. And its the touch up paint stick and I used the brush because of how large of a section it is.

I suggest buying your spray can from Paint Scratch



PaintScratch Touch-Up Paint (rs), Spray Cans, Spray Paint, Paint Pens, Car Paint, Automotive Paint



I’ve used this technique successfully but you sure have to be patient. It also is a temporary (a year or two) fix. You will be using acrylic lacquer which is pretty forgiving. The “fix� will not be perfect. You need to have your whole trunk lid repainted by a pro.
