major cake on wheels

hey guys,



i tried using p21s gel and a toothbrush agitator. i've gotten a lot off but there is some brake dust that is really hard to get off. any suggestions or am i out of luck? stronger wheel cleaner or brush perhaps? thanks!

Don't go stronger on the brush. You will only scratch the wheels.



I would use a stronger non-acidic wheel cleaner. I have had nice success with Wheel Wash (www.topoftheline.com) , 4* Wheel Cleaner Gel (www.premiumautocare.com) , and I hear Poorboy's Spray and Rinse Wheel Cleaner is great as well (www.poorboysworld.com)

Locally available Eagle One A2Z is one mean brake dust eating machine. It has cleaned some horrendously nasty wheels for me.

thanks for the suggestions guys. i think i'll stick to the toothbrush also. they come free, but they take a lot of work!!



i wanted to get the a2z but the store ran out. i've heard nothing but good things about it. i'd rather not do the online shopping unless i have a bigger order. thanks again!

Really? non-acidic on the wheels? I have used an acid/degreaser mixture with a bottle brush and soft bristled tooth brush and have had great success.

sonus wheel cleaner works well but im thinking about going to sonax, i just use a brush made for todays modern wheels.

I would try some brake cleaner

~One mans opinion / observations~



Try hosing the wheel and then applying P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner ((it’s water-based, non-acidic and will not harm the finish) let the gel remain for a time (and if necessary reapply). You might also want to try detailer’s clay

I agree with several replies so far. A2Z works really well as does P21S Gel, though the P21S *may* be safer on your wheels. Just remember to rinse the wheel really well with water if you use A2Z.



Clay has removed some stubborn deposits for me too!

i have used it for wheels that have some major brake dust build up and i just re washed the surface and then added some wax



no staining or discoloration of the wheels either

WD-40 will work well, and waxing the wheels is a routine regimine at my shop.
