Mailing post cards, is it worth it?

Hi I just printed up postcards ( mine are the size of a half sheet of paper not the regular size 4 x 6 post cards ) and I dont use before or after visit cards they all say the same just an advertisement for my service, describing the services I offer and how my vehicle is set up to work anywhere. Really nothing fancy just to the point, sometimes on the post cards that I send out prior to doing a neighbors job I will hand write in the address that I will be at and the date and time inviting them tom come and see my work first hand and get an estimate for thier vehicles. Overall this seems to work nicely for me.

Funny I just read this post because I just designed 1000 post cards at a local printer. I have a solid base 500 customers that I'm sending out reminders to, offering $25 off a complete detail. we will see how it turns out. gary

Since I raised some of my prices, to justify how much time I spend per vehicle, I thought I might offer a discount for my REGULAR customers that are loyal, these won't go out till Oct, for use in Nov and Dec which are generally slow for me. My core customers are the people that pay the rent, and taking care of them is #1. even with the discount I still do fine. Gary

You may want to think about offering a discount on an additional service or offer a small freebie instead of discounting your base detailing. Something like free scothgaurd on carpets would work well with winter approaching or a free hand wash when they buy the detail to bring them back within say a month or two. It would allow you to establish your price increase, and get it, but also give something back to your customer at the same time. More of a win-win on both sides rather then just for the customer. Also if the customer sees value in the freebie or discounted additional service that they just got they would likely purchase it again when it isn't offered at the discounted rate.

It's always better to compete on value, rather than price. Usually I will try to offer additional services at reduced prices, but I never reduce the "base price" of my services. It's much easier to upsell add-ons than to try to get someone "in your door" to begin with. Plus, price becomes more of an issue if you bring it up first, or so I am told.
