magic eraser

If you haven't tried these puppies...YOU NEED TO !!

The wheels on my wifes' 98 320 wagon w/105,000 miles were pretty grungy. Brake dust, over the years, has definately made its mark.. particularly in the wheel recesses.

Not exactly sure how this product works, but it did a great job of removing the black specks that were embedded in the alloy. The pad removed 95% of the dust and the wheels looked fantastic!!

The pad doesn't seem to be abrasive..it just deteriorates as it is used. One pad will thoroughly clean four wheels. I tore one pad in half and used one-half for each side. That allows you to get the smaller piece deep intl the recesses.

Hard to describe the cleaning ability, but its an unusual material and I believe all detailers will add it to their must-have kit!

Comments are welcome...and no...I don't work for MR. CLEAN !

It's also very good in removing wax residue from trim and cleaning scuffs off of vinyl door panels, etc.....

I do know this; If you use the magic eraser on satin finish wall paint you end up with a flat finish. It takes the gloss right off.

Yes, the eraser is good...no, you should not be using it on paint (MB wheels are painted-not bare metal). If you looked at them under a halogen you would see micro-marring in a thousand directions (tried it on the paint on my mower).

The eraser is abrasive-even says so on the package. I think it's great for things like textured vinyl, but I'd never let it touch paint. JMHO.

These magic erasers wear out too quickly. First thing I tried cleaning with them were my white shoes. It costs less to buy one of those foaming cans of shoe cleaner (price and amount of applications you can do) than getting those magic erasers. They just cost too much to get the job done.

I started using the erasers this past summer, and I find

they do a real good job of cleaning up trim. Here's some

quick pics:

This is polish and wax residue on the mirrors.

This is after eraser...

Here you get a better idea of what it can do. The stuff

on the trim had been there for almost more than a year.

I tried prepsol, peanut butter, and even paint thinner to

ger that stuuf off. All that stuff dd was dry out the molding

and make the trim look really dull. After one quick use

of the eraser, I was able to get the trim looking more

natural. I don't really bother, but if you are so nclined,

you can use your favorite trim dressing to make it look

real good.

And as mentioned before, try to avoid rubbing the paint

with this stuff as it will scratch. Safest bet would be to

cut off a small piece to use for tight spots, or just mask

up around where you'll be doing the work. Best to use

this once you've done all your wetwork.

usdm,

Klasse All-in-One and Meguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner remove wax residue on trim. I particularly like All-in-One because it also provides a bit of protection. :)

Actually, I've tried Klasse on the textured trim, and it did not

work. Applied it with a toothbrush, sponge, and even a very

light scuff pad. No matter how I tired it, I could not get all

the residue out very cleanly or as quickly as using the eraser.

How do you use it?

Thanks for the warning about the abrasiveness. Actually, her wheels are so far gone with the brake dust, my next plan of action was a repaint. Mercedes brake pads are horrible about brake dust. After a thorough cleaning, just a short drive will lightly dust the rims. After a week, they're really black..particularly the front.

I've heard mostly negative reviews about the wheel shields. Anybody actually happy with these gizmos ?

Cheap microfiber towels from Wal-Mart or Target. Reason I say cheap is because the trim turns them black.

When using the eraser make sure to go directly behind it with water or the vinyl will dull and fade. it is an amazing product and I hear they are making one without bleach. wal-mart had them for .88 for a while.

Damn, we don't have these in Australia, heck we don't even have Woolite.... :( But we do have Sonax and Auto Glym...
