M21/NXT Real Barrier !

Just curious, what was your prep? That is some serious wet, I have original fromula NXT from 2+ years ago, and I am also dissapointed with durability. It looks great initially, but after a wash or two, it, just does not have the same look. I measure durability by how the finish looks, I could care less about beading as long as it looks great.

Steve

Steve,

Thanks! I am really proud of how this paint looks.....

It was a relatively new car, so there wasn't much prep required, but it was my first major detail on the car, so I went over everything.

wash with nxt wash

clay

1Z metallic glazex2 (PC)

NXT pastex2 by hand, first coat dried for ~1hr before removing...

Wheels were done with meguiars hot shine. A little too shiny for me, and it doesn't last, but I got a sample for free, figured I should use it...

NXT works great over AIO too. Got 5 full months of beading, slickness and excellent appearance on a single stage white Honda Accord with that combo. I know Meguiars says their products are all compatible but I find that NXT does best with regard to durability over low/no oil polishes.

Scott,

Yeah, I agree with that.

Also, and I think it might matter, but I was extremely disapointed with the NXT liquid, which I got pretty much the day it was released. I think I waited about a year, then broke down and got the paste, which I love to death..

Coulda been the formula, coulda been paste vs liquid, but whatever it was, the can of paste I have works perfectly.

I don't think NXT is marketed as a long-term wax like Zaino. I use NXT and think it's great. It's a great touch-up wax that I apply once a month. IMHO, best wax to use between full polishes, because it hides those inevitable swirls up great. I usually top it with FMJ as well.

I have noticed that NXT definitely looks like it is 'there'. I've never had any durability complaints with NXT.

I agree Scottwax. I'm not sure why some people say there is no durability. I've had very good results with NXT. It certainly lasts much longer than any carnauba, I've ever used. It protected my car for 4 months during an extended rainy season out here in SoCal last year. It may have lasted longer but I had to wax the car again in the Spring ;) I was going to see how it would hold up this year but the rain didn't last as long and as continuous as it did last year. NXT has been a great product for me.

Quickly details your car and renews gloss!

Restores Show Car Polish protection and intensifies freshly polished paint.

Excellent on wheels... shines and protects!

Z-6â„¢ Ultra Clean is the first detailing spray designed to be a quick detailer and a polish enhancement in one. Z-6â„¢ Ultra Clean detailing spray is a very important component of the Zaino Show Car Polish system. Formulated with the same polymer-based gloss enhancers, Z-6â„¢ Ultra Clean dramatically boosts and intensifies all Zaino Show Car Polish finishes...

Z-6â„¢ Ultra Clean forms a tough molecular bond to all Zaino Show Car Polishes to increase gloss, optical clarity, slickness, and protection from the sun and elements...

It is not just a quick detailer, it is a booster :buffing:

Certainly sounds like a booster to me. Perhaps Meguiar's should market the NXT line as more of a system (not that it already doesn't) and demonstrate the advantages to actually using the booster alongside the wax.

I have noticed that both M21 and NXT when just applied doesn't look like it offers much protection, but wait a day when it cures and then I can see an thick polymer coating covering the paint, this is especially noticable when you have a paint chip under to differentiate the contrast, you can really see how thick the sealant is as a sacarficial barrier. I'am convince that both M21 and NXT is a durable as Zaino or AIO and that beading is not a good indicator on polymer sealants.

I agree :2thumbs: The curing process is a must with NXT. The finish always looks better the next day.

I would imagine they don't because NXT is a consumer line. Generally speaking, most consumers don't want a 'system.' They want to wash it 6 times a year and wax it once a year. Meguiar's has the Deep Crystal system which works pretty well for its price and what it is intended to do, but it isn't nearly as popular as GC Wax or NXT Wax. GC and NXT both provide one bottle solutions for the average consumer. The closest thing to a 'system' NXT has is that the bottle of booster wax specifically states to use it after NXT tech wax. No mention of having to NXT Soap. I'm surprised they haven't marketed an NXT paint cleaner or scratch remover/abrasive polish. (I like Meguiar's products, but I think they have too many redundant products.)

I've never used Zaino, but a friend uses it religiously on his BMW. It looks fantastic. He also has dedicated quite a bit of time to it as well. Zaino could never succeed because you need so many products and so many steps. Look at the average detailing section of a car forum (not autopia, but a Civic, Scion, Saab, BMW, Corvette or Benz forum) and see how much confusion there is between polishing before waxing and waxing before polishing. Even on Autopia there is confusion between waxes, sealants, glazes, polishes, booster waxes, quick detailers, etc. Meguiar's Show Car Glaze is not an LSP but Klasse Sealant Glaze is.

from my experience NXT looked as if it was there after the beading diminished. In fact when I removed it with Tarminator I could clearly see a difference between panels.

I have been one of the unlucky ones that has had NXT tank after 2 washes.... Killer look, poor durability. I have used only the liquid version, and I assume it is ver 1.0.

Yes, I leave it truly unmaintained, and as truly unmaintained I mean no quick detailer, no booster, no anything. Just a wash and dry.

Same results here too. I'm rather unimpressed, especially since everyone else loves it.

not everyone :) i think if you do enough searches, you will find the general consensus is that NXT has terrible durability. with that said, a lot of people have good results with the paste. I have no desire to find out because I was very unsatisfied with the liquid.
