Lovebugs in Florida

Y'all, my wife and I are driving to Orlando (from N.C.) this weekend for a week. What's the lovebug situation? I know that May was the "minor" season when we lived there several years ago.

I'm going to be experimenting with some Pro Bug Guard to see how easy bugs come off. I tried a tiny bit and I can tell you it is very smeary on chrome but seems ok on paint. I'm going to have to tryit on the Audi.

When I lived in FL in the 70's we used to smear a light coat of Vaseline on the front of the car... worked great.

I said the same thing on another forum and you should have seen the reaction!!:rofl

I live in Orlando and Right now in the Actual City Area it is very very low. I drive from near the college to downtown and might hit one.

If your wrried get the clear bra stuff..

You can always use the Vaseline or Bug Guard on the clear bra too. I read they can get stained pretty badly from bugs and that seems even worse than on paint

I live in Florida and last summer I actually sprayed a liberal coat of a quite oily QD (from the PROWAX line, I don't remember the name off of the top of my head, but most any QD would work) without wiping it off. I was taking a day trip across Aligator Alley (straight across the lower porition of the state) during lovebug season. As I was driving (70+ MPH) it spread out into a thin oily film across the entire front of the car (a PT Cruiser with plenty of front fascia to catch bugs).

It worked like a champ.

When I got home that night I sprayed the front of the car off with a strong stream of water (it would not have been strong enough to remove the bugs just from the water pressure) and not a single bug splatter remained.

I should mention that I got a couple of strange looks like "What did that guy drive through to get that oil all over the front of his car?!" kinda looks, but I didn't have to scrub or clay bar the bug guts off of the front of my car.

It's the same effect has having a fresh coat of wax on the front. It's essentially a coat of silicone/wax/oil to keep the bugs from really bonding with the paint. Except I think it is easier and might work a little better. Of course, it will look kind of messy and strange, which kind of goes against having a nice clean car in the first place, but if it is only an occasional trip through the bugs I think it is a good little trick.

I would also be very interested to see how the PRO Bug Guard does, that is actually the product that gave me the idea to try this.

Just something I've been wanting to share, but keep forgetting to post. Good luck and have fun in Orlando.

Did not hit (ha ha) any lovebugs on the Beeline between the beach and Orlando Sunday, both ways, but saw an SUV in Orlando just plastered with lovebugs. So you takes your chances...
