Loud air intake

Hey, if you can name alot of cars that are more reliable, cheaper, more loaded with options, a larger supply of aftermarket parts, better resale value, and better fuel efficiency, then let me know lol.

You buy a Civic for those reasons, and imho, the Civic offers the most bang-for-the-buck under $15,000. Well, atleast it did 4 years ago. Models 2000 and below were all fantastic cars, I can’t speak for the 2001 + models as I know nothing about them really. But I wouldn't doubt that went down much in quality.

well while I've built plenty of civics up w/ friends etc. Done numerous motor swaps driven plenty of hondas on the track and at other races. There is more bang for the buck out there cheaper, maybe not in a new car, and personally w/ what it takes to honestly make a honda fast you can have a pretty quick car for that money (assuming you are working w/ a new car, and not going used)

You are flawed w/ a few things, let's compare it to an LS1 camaro. While the civic is cheaper, once you get it to be as quick in as say a Z28 you have already passed it. While the import community is VERY large, it still doesn't have anything for the SBC and SBF community.

Fuel economy, I just did a road trip in my fathers C5 and got 31 mpg

Please, lets not compare a v8 muscle car to a 4 banger. There is no comparison to be made because they are totally 2 different classes.

True, but I don't think it is meant as a slam. He is saying that to make a initially less expensive Civic as quick as an LS1 Camaro, you loose the Civic's price advantage. I really like my Accord, but I am under no illusions that with a few grand, I will be taking down Z-28s....but after 280,000 miles, I still have no squeaks or interior rattles. ;)

Scottwax, I think there's something to be said for Honda's reliability. Yes, a Camaro is gonna be faster than a Civic, and it's gonna cost more money than it's worth to make a Civic as fast as a Camaro. But the Civic won't be broken down nearly as much as a Camaro lol.

I dunno about that. Once you start modding and upgrading car the hardcore parts on a car, you start loosing reliability/driveability. Espically when you start doing things like turbo, superchargers, nitrous and engine swaps.

Tell that to recent CL and TL and even Accord owners who have had 3+ transmissions replaced ;)

Rofl, well before I tell that to recent CL and TL and Accord owners, I'd ask to see how they drive the car first.

Even the most durable transmissions made will be destroyed if the owner does not shift or drive properly...:nono

Alas it is true, those car have tranny problems left and right. I have a CL and go on that forum. We got lots of trannys failing right off the bat (there is a section just for it). It mostly because of the design of the car. It seems like the car generates more heat than the tranny can cool. They just issued another recall on the dam trannys. In the lower HP acura/honda the problem doesn't exist as much.

Wow, first I've ever heard of that before. That's odd that Acuras would have those problems, considering that's Honda's up-scale car line.

I'm on my 3rd :o

we even have a full forum dedicated to it

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=126

and honda finally acknowledged it and recalled all 00-04 TL's 01-03 CL's Odysseys, etc.

it's not uncommon for them to blow before they even hit 10K. There have been numerous newspapers that have done articles on the problem to as some owners have come close or gotten in SERIOUS accidents because of the problem.

As you can see by my sig though, i'm not knocking on Acuras :)

Oh I believe you know now. I just would have never suspected it. Sorry to wave fingers at you lol.

There no such thing as a perfect car. Even BMW had a problem with their x5s. Sometimes the fuel hose would come loose and hit the rotors where it can ignite the car. This hasn't happened yet but they did issued a warning for that. All of them are like that, Jags are consider the worst , most sports cars not made to be driven often so they break down really quick if you drive them often. Oh well facts about real cars and life.
