loss of "slickness" using ONR as QD

I mixed up a batch of ONR to use as my QD {followed directions on container to the "T"}. Used it once and found that it removed that "slick" feel the paint had before I used the ONR. I figured OK maybe I'll lighten up the mix and use less ONR for the QD - nope, same result...loss of "slickness". Now I used it right after I washed and dryed the car. Second time I used it about 2 days after the wash. I didn't use the ONR to wash the car.

When I have used off the shelf QDs my paint's slickness is typically enhanced more that it is diminished. Sadly ONR doesn't seem to perform the same.

Has anyone else had this experience using ONR as a QD? Any other ratio recommendations that might eliminate this problem.

I've found that this happens using nearly any wash. I like to follow with a QD afterwards / when drying to help restore some slickness and shine. :)

Remember, that ONR is primarily a cleaning liquid with added protection. You *can* use it as a QD because it adds protection, and enhances appearance. If you use it on the windshield, you'll have a nice RainX-like effect. Optimum has a dedicated QD (OID) with outstanding slickness.

Other than tactile "issues", ONR performs great as a QD, because it encapsulates dust and dirt particles, therefore it is more gentle to the paint finish than other, non-encapsulation detailers, deposits a nice layer of polymer protection and amps up the shine. I think the positive properties outweigh the negative.

As Optimum product are cross-compatible, you can add some OID to the ONR to add more slickness during washing.

I have noticed this too, I use ONR as my cleaning detail spray as I find it is very easy to use but doesnt boost gloss and slickness like meguiars UQD. OTOH UQD doesnt clean for crap and is harder to use.

I really wanna try OID as I have heard nothing but prase for it

I use ONR QD to clean up dust. Sometime I will go over the car again with FK 425 bc I like that it makes the paint slick. I have not tried OID yet.

ONR's primary use is a rinseless wash. In QD dillution, I find it most suitable for claying and cleaning glass. It does a nice job as a QD but like others have noted, it isn't particularly slick. QID, on the other hand, is incredibly slick.

Would it be ok to add a little OID to the ONR QD mixture in a spray bottle? I have both products and was wondering what the effects would be if they were mixed and use as a QD together.

Any thoughts before I mix it up. I don't mind testing it out, but if any of you think it's a waste of time, or won't do much, then I don't want to waste the products.

ONR and OID is a great team. If you add just a little OID to the ONR, then you have a strong cleaning QD with added slickness and gloss, and if you add more, you have a nice waterless wash.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll mix it up and see how it does.

I have a more detailed review almost ready to post on the DP Rinseless but I really like it as a QD. I didn't notice any loss of slickness with it and it was easy to use, left a nice clean finish without streaks. Will likely replace griots speed shine on my shelf since it is a lot less expensive.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one having this problem. Typically I use products dedicated as QD but I bought a gallon of ONR and was trying to find other ways of using it up. Being here in So Cal I rarely need to use it as the weather is usually pretty cooperative for a complete wash the old fashion way. :D

Personally, I hate to drag out a hose to wash after getting used to QEW/ONR. I'd be more than happy if I never needed to do a conventional wash again.

Scott, I have watched many of your videos for onr washes, my question is, how many mf towels do you typically go through for 1 onr wash?

I know you probably dont use the same two towels for the whole car as the towels can only hold so much dirt before they get loaded up, do you switch after every panel? Every two panels?

Mike

Use a grout sponge. I tried washing with an mf and didn't like it. It just didn't feel right.

ONR and lowes grout sponge were made for eachother.

I too hate pulling out a hose now. Waste of time and water.

Just FYI, if it isn't raining in the Dallas area during the day, I'm probably out detailing so questions during the day to me probably won't get answered until at least late afternoon.

I use 2-4 towels per vehicle, depending in size, how dirty it is and the temperature. Cooler days mean more towels, just another reason to despise winter. I use 16 x 16 MF towels folded over twice and refold until they don't hold any more moisture.

I ended up mixing a little OID with ONR QD. I also mixed it with DP 4N1 as a QD just to see if both would work.

My car wasn't dirty, it only had light dust. Both products as QD's with a little OID worked very well. :)
