Loss of grain on my leather?

I know I'm suppose to use search but my search skills suck and I couldn't find anything about my problem...

Anyways, I'm trying to clean out the interior of my Aviator and the first thing I did was to try and clean the leather. I used warm water and a microfiber cloth and to be honest, it does do a good job. However I noticed that the places where I did go over with the towel, the grain/texture/I have no idea what its called started dissapearing... The leather started to become smooth whereas when it came from the factory, there was a noticable texture on it. I immediately stopped for fear of damaging my leather.

I know for a fact that the leather is coated although I'm not sure if its pigmented or semi-aniline although I think its the former.

So my question is, what is going on? Am I removing the coating as I gently clean the leather? I mean if I completely clean my interior and remove the coating, I'll get a cleaner interior but wouldn't it defeat the purpose of having coated leather in the first place?

Cliff notes for the lazy

washed leather with microfiber cloth and warm water(no woolite or anything)

noticed the lexture/grain of the leather started wearing down/dissapearing

*** is going on?
