Looking to get a Porter Cable 7424 XP Kit

I have been doing all my polishing and waxing by hand due to fears that a buffer would damage my paint. From everything I have read and heard it is near impossible to damage the paint using a random orbital buffer like a PC 7424 XP.

Seeing the results everyone gets using a PC vs hand has made me want to give using a PC a try.

I am thinking of getting the Starter Kit from Detailed Image. Or would the Advanced Kit be better? Or possibly another kit? Another Vendor?

I am not sure if I will also need to buy more products? I currently use the Zaino lineup, consisting of;

Zaino Z-PC

Zaino Z-AIO

Zaino Z-2 PRO

Zaino Z-5

Any recommendations? The cars are a Dark Green 2001 Nissan Xterra and a White 2006 BMW 323i

I started out by hand, and it is a killer. I got a PC ten years ago, for Christmas, courtesy of my -ex (one of the few good things she did).

I'm still using it, for my car, and a few others. With the current pad and polish technology, I am hanging in there.

What I can say is that you need to get a machine ASAP. You'll never look back.

Mr. Burnworth (above) knows way more about this than I. And, he's a Steeler fan!

Others will surely chime in.

After using the XP PC for 6 months, I prefer the Meguiars G110v2.

ding ding ding! Winner!

I suggest getting a G110 kit from ADS. You can get M105/205 and a couple pads. You are set out the door for less than $200.

If you could afford a Flex 3401 you would be much happier. I have been the PC route. The Flex offers more advantages over the PC. If not enjoy you new PC !

I think I would be more comfortable sticking with the Porter Cable 7424 XP. Dont want to fork out more for a Flex, and not sure on the G110v2.

I would also like to stay with Zaino for the final finish, as I like the results (especially on my Green xTerra, made the paint look great). Also I recently bought the stuff and have a lot left...

What I really need help with the selecting the pads and the polishing products.

The Lake Country pads seem to be mentioned a lot, so I am thinking of using them. The starter kit seems to have a pretty good selection of pads included. Should I get few more then included?

With regards to the polishing product I have no clue really, any suggestions for a Cutting and Finishing Polish? I am thinking the Poorboy's SSR 2.5 for Cutting and SS1 for Finishing? Good/Bad/Better recommendation?

My thoughts are;

- Poorboy's SSR 2.5 with orange pad

- Poorboy's SSR 1 with white pad (or maybe Zaino Z-PC?)

- Zaino AIO with black pad

- Zaino Z-2 with blue pad

Above sound good? Not sure if I want to even think about getting a cutting compound.

What about using Menzerna, in decreasing abrasiveness;

Cutting Polish = Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO83 on orange pads

Cutting Polish = Menzerna Power Finish PO203S on green pad

Finishing Polish = Menzerna PO85RD on black pads

Sealant = Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Paint Sealant

maybe a Zaino and Menzerna mix;

- Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO83 on orange pads

- Menzerna Power Finish PO203S on green pad

- Menzerna PO85RD on black pads

- Zaino AIO with black pad

- Zaino Z-2 with blue pad

I read AIO is a polish (has abrassives) and designed to clean the paint, but if you just polished it with SSR or whichever you decide on, I wonder if there's any point?

I am not sure either regarding using the Zaino AIO after SSR1. My thought is that the Zaino AIO would be less abrasive then SSR1, and based on going from most to least abrasive for best finish then following SSR1 with Zaino SSR1 would be a good idea. Of course this assumes that Zaino AIO is less abrasive then SSR1?

In general is the Menzerna is a better product then the poorboys?

For the extra $30 I am thinking to also get Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant and drop Zaino completely for my white BMW. The Zaino did a wonderful job I think on the green xterra, but I wasnt really knocked out with it on the white BMW. I figured it might be just because the car is white, but maybe it was the Zaino? Any thoughts on the Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant?

After some further thought here is what I am thinking;

- Menzerna Power Finish PO203S with Orange Pad

- Menzerna Power Finish PO203S with White Pad

- Menzerna Final Polish PO85RD with Black Pad

- Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant with Blue Pad

My thought is that since I am a beginner it would be good to start on the lighter side of abrasives. I can always get Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO83 later, if I am finding that the above is not providing the correction I need. Any opinions?

To start with I would get two of each of the above pads. Enough to do a car in one go?

Any thoughts on the Menzerna Top Inspection Spray? Good to get also? Good to keep in the car to wipe away bird bombs ASAP?
