looking for winter advice

Here in the north (WI), the temps are dropping. I've been using P21S on my car but it doesn't last long. Thinking of trying out AIO for winter protection. Am I going to need multiple coats of that?

klasse AIO is a cleaner so it will remove the previous coat of AIO when you reapply it. It will not layer. Only reason you may see AIO applied 2X is to make sure of complete coverage. You can still apply P21S over the AIO and have it act as a sacrificial layer. You'll still be left with the AIO layer when the wax comes off.

If you are set on going the Klasse route, I would do AIO, 3x SG, and then if you don't like the look of it, add a P21S topper coat for good measure. That should keep you set.

Personally, I like to do a 6-coat regimine of 3x Zaino Z5/ZFX, then 3x Z2/ZFX the next day. Then depending on how I'm feeling I might top with S100.

Another one I've had good luck with was 2 coats of Meg's #20.

You haven't really given us any info on the condition of your paint. When I finally started paying attention to my neglected '93 Benz, it did take multiple (3, to be precise) applications of AIO to get all the oxidation off the paint.

Then, do go all the way to a polymer layer -- Klasse SG or Zaino -- if you really want to give the vehicle good protection thru the winter. :up

Thanks for the thoughts. This is my 6-mo. old Mini Cooper. The paint's in good shape, though the dealer decided to add swirls for me when I had it in for a service issue:(

I'm really short on time (and warm days) right now so I thought AIO would be quicker than Zymol. Does it make a difference whether I try to do something about those swirls now or can I wait until spring?

Zymol? :scared I hope you meant Zaino.

You could wait until spring, but it will inevitably be a worse job in the spring than it is now. I guarantee that no matter how hard you try, the winter WILL bring some degree of micro-marring to the paint if you live where salt and sand is used on the roads. Personally, I'd recommend that you use a light SMR to work on it this fall, then just go over it again more intensely in the spring to really work up a shine.

Depending on the sevarity of the swirls, AIO may even be able to take care of the problem by itself.... you'd just have to wait and see. If not, then I'd recommend working with Meg's DACP and/or SFP.

Short on time and looking for a durable wax? Sounds like an ad for Einszett Hart Glanz:) I just applied it to my Cooper, we'll see in the spring how it looks. Hart Glanz wax goes on just like P21S/S100 but lasts much longer if you aren't familiar with it.

Oops  I did mean Zaino. (I just finished my fourth 14-hour day.) Sorry, but what's SMR? I'm just finding my way around this site. Isn't there an abbreviation glossary somewhere?

Yep, you will find the "Acronyms" page linked from the Autopia homepage here

Now ... get yourself back out there and start applying that sealant! :D
