Looking for a good camera...

Hey y'all,

So it is that time of the year, I'm creating my wishlist and deciding what I want to go buy while the sales are on :grinno: I am looking for a good camera.

I've never bought a camera before so I don't really know what to get. I am a huge fan of any type of racing and like car shows and all that good stuff. So i would be taking a lot of pictures of cars and planes and stuff.

Also, I like to get pictures of action shots, like sports or planes at an airshow or something. I would like a camera to do it all, naturally. haha

I am looking at the Canon EOS Rebel XS. Is this a good camera for action shots and still shots? Is it very easy to use and does it allow me to tweak settings later on if I get more into photography? I would like to stay in this price range, if anyone has any other suggestions.

Also, does this lens work well for the still, closer shots? And, what lens would be good for a little further away and possible action shots?

Hope that makes sense, writing this during class. haha

Thanks!

I was looking at the same camera and after much research and discussion with different salesmen, I ended up buying a Nikon D60. You can get great deals on them because they are no longer making that model, but everyone says its better then the model it replaced. I personally love it, but still have alot more to learn about using it.

The Rebel series is definitely worth considering. I got the t1i as a side camera and has helped me get into photography with its ease of use. With the added features it beats my 1D. Also with the added video, I am able to create 720p clips on the fly with adjustable focus. Its small, inexpensive, and has a lot to offer. Check it out!
