Looking for a fine alcohol beverage....

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
As the title says I'm looking for some recommendations on a nice alcoholic beverage. I wanna buy my best friend a nice bottle of something for christmas, but have no clue at all what to get. I'm probably one of the few guys my age who doesn't drink so I know very little to nothing about what's good and not. I'm sure it comes down to preference yada yada but what are some "good" tasting drinks out there that will give you a nice buzz? I figured I ask here then look like a total moron at the liquor store, which I'm sure I will anyway. I'm looking to spend around $35-40 for the bottle. I've been hearing a couple co-workers rave about Hennessy. Apparently it's pretty good and will get the job done, but I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. :bigups

to get a good bottle of hennesy can be costly, also it is an aquired taste. Alot of liquors like that are.

for that price range i would go with a nice port. my personal fav for that price i would go witha 10 year tayol fladgate... Its a litle sweeter then most others like grahams, it also has a nice fruity flavor, it also has avery aromatic, sweet nose

That would be my suggestion. If you are looking for a scotch or sothing i can also help wit that, but they will be a little more expensive

Hennessy? Yeah, if you're Jay Z or something tacky like that.

Does he like flavored Vodkas? Scotch? Does he like Gin?

Does he drink mixed drinks when you go out like Jack & Coke or Gin and Tonic? I ask because if he does, most *quality* liquors would do. But if he drinks liquor straight up, then a high quality bottle in your price range will do since they have unique, distinct flavors that will be ruined by mixing some artificial nonsense like soda.

If he likes flavored Vodkas, I love Charbay Meyer Lemon. Charbay makes some other awesome flavored vodkas. Welcome to Domaine Charbay!

If he likes Gin, I love Bombay Sapphire (cool website) Bombay Sapphire

If he likes Scotch, I like Macallan Single Highland Malt Scotch (expensive). Or you can try Johnnie Walker Gold label (blended).

If he likes Bourbon, Knob Creek is nice.

Hope this helps.

Well I bartend so I will shoot you off some drinks:

1. Redbull and vodka. (Absolut Vodka)

2. Jagermeister and maybe a shot glass (Pour a shot of Jagermeister and then drop it into a glass of Red Bull)

3. Greygoose Vodka

4. Captain Morgan

5. Jack Daniels

I'm going to have to agree with Seth, if he likes Gin definitely go with Bombay Sapphire! Very popular as well.

I would get him a couple nice smaller bottles so he can have a variety. I also do not drink so I cant really tell you what these drinks taste like but these are some favorites of people.

Jagermesieter!

Blast from the past! Brings back awesome and not so awesome memories. Don't know about a nice buzz, but 3 or 4 shots in a night of drinking will lay him out!

Haha, while at it, why not throw in Rumplemints and Goldschaegar! :hifive:

wow spilchy...that is definitely taking me back.

if they are into tequila i would suggest cabo wabo tequila.

great stuff and goes down smooth

Sorry for being vague, but as I said I don't know a lot about all the different types of alcohol. I'm pretty sure he doesn't like gin, I know i've seen him get jack and coke; but he's a cheap SOB and drinks in the city are expensive so I dunno. I guess a nice vodka like one of the grey gooses flavored ones or the other one called charbay should be OK.

I'm not too worry about getting "the wrong one", he's pretty open to new things and what not, so I'm sure what I get will be fine. I guess I'll take a ride to the liquor store tommorow and see how they are price wise.

Keep the recommendations coming though...:wavey

Yep, a few summers back we were in Mexico, and I picked up a handle of Johnny Red for $16 :heelclick

Rum - Appleton Estate VX 1.75l - $35

Vodka - Stolichnaya Elit 750ml - 30+

Bourbon - Maker's Mark 1.75l - 40ish

Gin - Bombay Sapphire 1.75l - 33

I'd go for the Maker's Mark if I were you, it's like an upscale version of Jack Daniels.

Johnny,

I'll make it really simple for you.

Nothing says class like a great single malt scotch.

It doesn't matter if your buddy drinks scotch or not, it's the gift that the buddy will be able to share with his pals and bosses when they drop over and he'll always have something that any cultured person in the world will look at and appreciate.

So, the absolute best single malt scotch, in this circumstance, would be only one choice.

It's the most drinkable, light, golden single malt in the history of the world. Drink it neat or with an ice cube or two, or heaven forbid, a splash of H2O.

Experts love it, women will tolerate it, and non-scotch drinkers will think it's very pleasant and ask for a 2nd shot.

No smoky, peaty, highland kilty aftertaste. No lingering fragrances of William Wallace's sporin, just pure, beautiful, delicate scottish water of life:

Cardhu.

Easy, simple, elegant, and expensive. Perfect for a perfect friend.
