Looking for a detergent resistant LSP

Ok, just ordered FK 1000p , I'll be pissed if it turns out to be just another hype like 845 turned out to be. Will be using it as a winter wax on some of my customers cars and my DD. if on/off turns out to be too much then it will be a wheel lsp.

Can't believe you fell for that old 'flavour of the month' product hype [sarcasm]

Accumulator, I dont have any AIO's you mentioned .

I have Zaino AIO , OPT GPS , DG 105,601 and 501.

Do you think a simple coat of 105 will do it , before I put on the 1000p ? My 1000p tin is almost empty but should have enough to do the Tahoe ( which is black ).

A coating would get my first vote, but DG105 and Collonite 476s are my second choices. I just did my work car with DG105/601 combo, so easy to use, goes on and off like nothing, inexpensive and great durability.

I agree DG105 and 501 have lasted a long time for me.

Jesstzn- If you somehow do decide that the FK isn't all that in the durability department, PM me about it ;) Now as for the looks...that's gonna be subjective and I gotta say I don't love it on every paint. Note that it's one of those LSPs that will look a little different after a day or two, but it still has a "signature look" that, for instance, I would simply *HATE* on my Jag. Thought I'd hate it on the Yukon but after a zillion compliments I got over that :chuckle:

Heh heh, you must've missed my mention of ZAIO ;)

I've never used the Opt. or DG stuff, but I wouldn't expect any problems; I'm finding the FK1000P to be far less finicky than I would've expected.

One thing though, I would *NOT* do immediate layering. It *sometimes* goes haywire and results in weird "pseudo-holograms" (hologram-like issues between the layers of FK1000P, presumably from solvent action). These can be very difficult to remove, and I mean *VERY*. I've gone over this with Ron Ketchan and we've come up with some possible explanations, but at any rate it's simply easier/simpler/?better? to wait and do the second coat after the next wash or something like that. Yeah, one single coat will provide plenty of protection to tide you over, no worries on that score.

Thought I was the only one underwhelmed by 845. But Collinite 476 on the other hand, what a great wax!

Agree. Second coat of carnauba anything seems to work a lot better if you simply apply it after the next wash.

Anyone haver thoughts on 476 vs 1000p ?

I have both. I will use ZAIO for my 1 step before 1000p or 476 if someone tells me different ...lol.

I have both. .

I've used both 476S and FK1000P, and I've used them on the same vehicle/under the same conditions.

The two products look *very* different to me, not that subtle "5% is LSP" but rather a marked difference that I'd expect anybody to notice.

Durability-wise I'd say that with one coat they're similar with a slight nod to the FK1000P. But if you layer them the difference is quite significant (note that I'd only layer these with the "after the next wash"-type waiting period, *NOT* on the same day or even after just a day or two).

While the 476S does seem to layer a bit IME (yeah, I tested with some reasonable controls ;) ) it's just not the same as layering FK1000P. A few coats/layers of the FK1000P will outlast Collinite by a huge margin (months), enough so that I switched my (Granite metallic) Yukon XLD over to FK1000P even though I liked the Collinite look better. E.g., it's the diff between having to redo after a tough winter vs. *not* having to redo.

In fact, because of the durability diffs I'm currently only using 476S on one vehicle (seriously bad paint, can't be corrected; the 476S is far more forgiving of flaws) while I'm using the FK1000P on three vehicles and will probably put it on another one also.

I will use ZAIO for my 1 step before 1000p or 476 if someone tells me different ...

The ZAIO works fine as a base for either one.

How does the FK1000P look on non metallic black???

Beats me, never tried it on that :nixweiss

I'd guess it would look "sterile" and sealanty, lacking "depth" and "jetting". Note all those scare-quotes ;)

That said, if I had a (non-metallic) black vehicle I'd still rather have FK1000P on it than, say....M26, which would probably look a lot bettr to any Autopians (who actually cared ;) ). In the real world, with non-Autopians looking at it, I doubt anybody would think "gee, that car looks awful! Shoulda done it with a different wax" :grinno: But *you* might think that, and it's your opinion that counts, huh?

It would be going on to my NON metallic black Tahoe (for myself ) but other cars that I do are not black.

Fall, are we allowed to suggest an LSP like Opti-Coat?

Fallguy- One of the reasons I put the FK on my metallic black Yukon was that the thing was so huge I didn't want to redo it for a long time (longer than with 476S). That's a big part of why I'm using it on the (pewter) Tahoe I have now.

While it might not be the greatest look you ever saw on your nonmetallic black, wouldn't it be swell to not have to redo it for ages!??
