A new 6.2L V-8 rated at 403 horsepower (301 kw)* and 417 lb.-ft. of torque (565 Nm)* is exclusive to Escalade. This all-aluminum engine uses variable valve timing (VVT) to optimize camshaft timing to improve low-rpm torque and high-rpm horsepower. The introduction of variable valve timing through the unique, dual-equal cam phaser is the industry’s first application of VVT on a mass-produced V-8 overhead-valve engine.

Just about every car manufacter has some sort of VVT. Toyota with VVT-i/VVTL-i, Honda Vtech/i-vtech, BMW has VANOS/Valvetronic, and what nots.

:nixweiss I dont know if I really like the exterior changes Cadillac made to the Escalade

I hate the changes. I saw one at the Detroit Autorama last weekend. To many gaudy emblems, chrome and other crap on the exterior. Why can't they just make a simple smooth exterior without all the noise?

I have not seen one in person...But I cant wait till I do. Sometimes the internet just doesnt do a vehicle justice when all the details can be seen up close. For that price tag ...if i could afford it lol I would take a CTS-V for $7k less

Edit: IMO it seems as if they are trying to make the Escalade stand out so much and look so luxurious that it just comes off as too overdone.

I agee with Bob that all those emblems and chromed everything looks gaudy and not luxurious to me at all. I think GM is confused about who they are targeting with their supposed luxury branded SUV.

Looks like a pimps dream ride to me. :grinno:

I hear that! They seem to take their design ques from watching Pimp My Ride. Now that you mention it, I ran into "Q" from Pimp My Ride while at the Autorama. Maybe they hired him to design it? LOL ;)

Yeah, I saw on in Grand Rapids about a month ago, I think it looks like crap on the outside. Interior looks nice, but outside, yuck. Same with the new Tahoe and Yukon IMO, the headlights look horrible.

Look at their target market.

I find it hard-pressed to find one "un-touched". Most buyers are buying them for their glitz to begin with, as a nice alternative to some more reserved premium SUV's (ie: Lexus). Not that I'd ever buy one, I think the style has progressed well.

This new "lade" is going to need every ounce of torque from this new variable valve timed V8 to get all that chromed mass moving. I can only imagine what pitiful gas mileage the behemoth gets.

Pimp'in soccer moms are going to have to pull their own trailered gas supply just to make it to school and back. :LOLOL

you got that right!! My Dad has an EXT, and it' huge. Off the line, it moves out!!!!!.....for a 3 ton suv. And for the size, handles it's weight well. He does not dive it oftern, he has a full size chevy truck for everyday. The 10mpg kind of stinks.

I kind of like the new one. I was afraid they were going to ruin it with a ton of bling on every square inch, but it still looks a little conservative.

Yeah, my dad (69) has an EXT or two and it does fairly well for something 6k pounds but the new ones are more powerful and supposed to be more efficient with cylinder deactivation and all.

Yeah, but on a 6.2 liter V8. That should be some serious torque under the curve.

But its still a GM!
