Long lasting tire dressing

Somebody did. It was in October of 2004 and may not apply today, though. :)
The BNB Redondo refers to is Poorboy's Bold and Bright which is what I use. :bigups
Thought I would get a definite answer to the questions raised about Zaino Z16 tire shine so I contacted Sal Zaino and asked him about the product:

On whether Z16 is water based or not:

"Z-16 is definitely water based.... and VOC free..."

On what makes Z16 so durable with no use of solvents:

"Z-16 is a polymeric system and is durable..."

On why Sal does not recommend Z16 for use on interior trim:

"Z-16 can be used on vinyl interior. . I personally like the natural look of interior vinyl. Z-16 will give a higher than normal gloss on those panels. It's okay to use it on those surfaces. Try a spot and if you like the way it looks use it. This is a matter of personal taste. Z-16 is safe for those parts."

Finally, on why he does not recommend Z16 for use on convertable tops:

"I currently don't offer a product specifically for convertible tops. Normal washing with Z-7 Car Wash will keep it clean and protected. Z-7 has a protectant and a UV-40 to prevent sun damage."

I really do not want to get into a big debate about Zaino products, I just use them because they work well, I also use a lot of Poorboys and 1Z products for the same reason. 4 Star products are next on my list to try!

I hope this sets the record straight on Z16, which I consider to be a fine product and I still stand by my recommendation of BNB or Z-16 as safe tire shines, worth considering the next time you purchase.

:)

Thanks Charles :bigups

Now to be a pain..,what type of finish does Z-16 leave on the tires, is gloss, matte or something in between?
Not that I'm in a rush, I have more BnB on the way this week, but I'm always open to new products...Gee what a surprise LOL

Can't help you there, but Jared has. :)
I don't want to be "that guy" - you know the one who comes into a thread and starts pushing Zaino like a drug dealer at an elementary school - but I have been really impressed by Z16. It's one of the Z products I have used that actually lives up to the Zaino hype so far. Low gloss shine, easy to apply, looks even when applied, doesn't sling, and it lasts decently.

Opps, may be I should read ALL of the post then

Thanks Jared

That's okay. Now do I get to go into my spill about telling you how wrong you are for not using Z16? About how you're not a real detailer unless you use it? About how it will last for 4.349 months on an untouched tire? :gotcha:

does anyone know if duragloss non-silicone dressing is close to z-16?
After looking at their web-site, I couldn't even decide for sure which of the five rubber/tire dressings was non-silicone. It does appear that some are solvent based, but does that mean the ones that don't mention solvent are not solvent based.

Since I have not used the either Z-16 or any Dura Gloss rubber/tire dressings I'm not going to be of any help to you.
If you are thinking the DG and Zaino products might be the same, I really doubt it. :dunno:
I personally think the comparison of the Zaino line and the Dura Gloss line has no real basis in fact.
The only thing I see in common is that both companies sell car care products. :)

Anything that lasts too long or seals your tire is not good for the tire... todays tires are meant to expand and contract with heat and cold...sealing it will cause pre-mature rotting of the side wall which is where all of the weight of a vehicle lies, especially around curves. Water-based dressings may not last as long, but the don't destroy the integrity or safety of the tire... :)

basically the key here is to pretty much use water based dressings often with just about every wash to rinse dirt off tires and re apply your dressing of choice

OK guys, after all that what is the best tire dressing on the market?

We know a non sling is what we all want, finish is in the eyes of the beholder. Some like shiny some Matt finish. We all want long lasting performance and we all want a product that does not turn BROWN,OR SUCK UP DUST AND DIRT.

I s this possible to find? I ASK YOU...:wall:confused:

The best is what works best for you. :)
Long lasting can mean different things to different people. For me, it means from wash to wash since I do my tires each time I wash the vehicle.
My product of choice for a year or two has been Poorboy's Bold N Bright for a variety of reasons.
1. It is a cleaner as well as a dressing.
2. It can be applied so it doesn't leave a shiny finish.
3. It doesn't sling.
4. It's quick and easy to use.
5. It isn't expensive per use for what it does.

I use it at each wash to clean and dress the tires and have no problem with it lasting that long.

I have been told that I ramble and have long boring posts so if you want to know my process, PM me.

Sounds like a good motto. :D

You're just too easy :D

Don't let logic get in your way of choosing a product.

My question would be, why not? See 4 & 5 above.

Quit your rambling and go ahead and post up your process. :D

Thanks for telling me your process and that's not a ramble in my opinion.I notice a difference in results and looks on a tire-tire "manufacture" basis. Some tires look much better when just washed and no detail-er applied Than others.Seems the rubber compound in different tires makes a difference, could I be right or do I need glasses.:yay:yay

Anywho,I just don't want the sling and after a ride in the rain,or a Sunday drive:thanks those brown nasty looking tires...:thanks

This is my process.
1. Spray the tire with Bold N Bright.
2. Scrub the tire with a brush.
3. Wipe down the tire with an old terry cloth towel.
That's it.
Leaves the tire with a clean, black, satin/matte finish.
I don't like shiny tires!

Now that's interesting. You scrub the tire with a brush AFTER you spray with B&B.

Hmmmmmmmmm...

I'm gonna try that.:)

I think a lot of people believe the Bold N Bright is just a dressing. It is actually a very good cleaner.
Using it at every wash, I never have to clean my tires with any other product. It even does a good job on white letters.
I think if you like a shiny finish you can apply more BnB by just wiping it on and get that look.

I agree with Charles. PB's BnB is a great product. It's water based, so it doesn't last forever, but the 5 points that Charles made make it very worthwhile for me.

I used it on some rubber floor mats the other day and it left them squeaky clean, literally. I hate shiny, goopy looking tires, so BnB gives me just the look that I like. You can keep applying it until you reach the desired level of shine.

:bigups Since I'm also washing wheels and wheel wells, I start cleaning with a soap/APC scrub and finish the job with your steps 1 and 2. I don't bother wiping down the tire since I go straight to washing the vehicle. By the time all the soap and water have run down over the tires, there is little to no gloss remaining. If the person prefers a bit more gloss, I just run my tire swipe with a spray or two of BnB back over the tires after drying the vehicle.
