Logo Design

For those of you that made your own logo, what program did you use? I've been looking around for one and don't have any clue as what to get. Should I get a cheap one? Do you think its worth it to pay someone to make it?

Thanks for the help

by the time you purchase the program, learn how to use it, come up with some creative idea for a logo, and actually implement the logo, it would have been much much much easier to just have it designed for you. On the other hand, there are people like me who have a few min of time really really late at night with nothing better to do than create logo's. What is the name of the company, and what are you hoping to achieve with the logo. Do you want a graphical logo, or a text based? Give me a few simple things, and i will see what i can make. Most important is the company name though.

The only graphics program I have is Photoshop, so that is what I use. Its a tricky program to learn, but once you get the hang of it you can do some pretty impressive things. I'm self taught at it and it has taken me probably 3 or 4 years to get to the point that I feel I'm pretty good at it. I'm still learning stuff and I know there are many levels of things that I have no clue about. Its a very dynamic program. Once you learn to use it then you can do all kinds of stuff to help grow your business. If having a logo right now is more important than learning a program then it is probably best that you have someone else to do it. Throw out some ideas and I'm sure some helpful Autopians can put something together for you. Just let us know the size you need it and kind of an idea of what you are looking for.

You could definately get a nice logo done for under 150. Lots of kids in school can make you a great professional looking logo and they aren't asking for much. If you want something basic, I could probably help you with it. PM me a rough idea of what you want and I'll see what I can do.

I'd say that you should probably look to your local art school. I'm a graphic designer, and I charge much more than $150 for a logo...and I can beat just about any design firm in the area. I use Macromedia Freehand and Adobe Illustrator for my design work. If you go with something like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro, make sure you use a high resolution (like 300 dpi at least) for your original and scale down from there.

The advantages of having a designer create your logo is the simple fact that they "know" how to design (color theory, contrast, space, etc...).

Or, use the help of the people who have already offered it here in this thread. Nothin' like Autopians helping Autopians. :D

Good luck with whatever way you go.
