Doesn't really have anything to do with money. I'd take a Volkswagen Golf GTi over a Ford Focus SVT any day of the week. Would that, in your opinion, be comparing apples to apples?

Kevin

All I am saying is look how much it takes to buy a new Porsche that can outperform a Vette, and how much it takes to buy a new Vette.

That's what I mean by apples and oranges. I'm glad that you are in a situation where you are able to afford what you want.

I can think of a few 4 door sedans that can out-perform the "vette". Namely the Audi RS6 or Mercedes E55 AMG, to name a few.

for almost double the price though. Not a big fan of Audi's (very vanilla in terms of styling), but the E55 AMG is a hot car...

My daily driver is Japanese, my toy is American (reliability and fun, respectively)...

Again, give me something for $50K that can compare with the Vette.

Anyways, I am done with this pointless "detailing" topic.

CTS-V? :p 400 hp LS6 motor in an M5-sized package for under $50K.

The tranny is supposed to be rubbery, but nevertheless, a competitve domestic player. Fits 3 more than a Vette, too...

YellowC4S:

Let me see... I've got $50K to spend. I can spend it on a 225 hp Boxter, or a 405 hp Corvette that will out-perform it in every category. Plus, with the Vette, I can get parts at a fraction of the cost from a large dealership network. Tough call.

(I know, I know, Porsches never need parts. By the way, I'm not bashing Porsches, like you do Corvettes ("last of my POS American-made cars" and "not worth the 'tyres' they ride on", I think were your quotes). The purpose of this site is mainly detailing, certainly not bashing other members' cars. I like Porsches, but it's guys with attitudes like yours that give Porsche owners a snobby reputation.)

I see them in my rearview mirror all the time...

In the summer, it's in the Porsche

In the winter, it's in the Audi

FWIW, the Corvette was the last POS American made car I owned...

Isn't that special. :bow :bow :bow

I'm the last guy who will defend American car manufacturers to the death, but realistically:

The Audi 4 series is kind of a chick car.

It should also be noted that the only Porsche worth driving is the Twin Turbo version (yes I've driven TT and non TT)...all the others are a huge step down, with the Boxter being the poor man's 911. You're basically saying, "I want a real Porsche, but cannot afford it"--what dipshiit would spend $50k on a 225 hp car that lacks any real personality besides the Porsche emblem? (oh same goes for the BMW 318i---hey man, "where'd the trunk of your car go?") That always gets a laugh from my pals, especially when a dude is driving one.

And lastly, your A4 or Carrera S will NOT outrun a C5 vette.

I love arguing over the Internet!!

I wasn't "bashing" another member's car. I purchased a corvette back in '89. Had it for 2.5 months and was up at the dealership with it so much, they were talking about making me a timecard, so i speak from personal experience. As for outrunning it, you give me a half inch of snow, I'll give the vette a head start and with th Audi, still eat it for lunch. As for the Porsche, you give me a tight road course and the results will be pretty much the same...been there, done that. I find that american made cars are all about "straight line" performance. A lot of my friends are into drag racing. I never bought into it because I feel that anyone can drive fast in a straight line. I'm invoved in and do a lot of road course racing/rallying where a cars nimbleness, or rather its ability to change direction quickly, (coupled with its ability to retain its composure while doing so), is more important than its "straight line" performance.
