Everything in the machine is plastic or rubber, so I really wouldn't suggest it. Really hot water is fine, but boiling water I think would have a negative effect on it over time. That is, if it didn't melt something right off the bat.

Initially, I followed the directions mixing the cleaner with the water and while it does work leaves a bit of residue behind which attracts dirt rather quickly.

I found that spraying the carpet with carpet cleaner, scrubbing with a brush, then rinsing and extracting the contaminates leaves it clean. Filling the unit with HOT water then using this as a rinse and vacuum gives me a much better end result...

Hey Bobby, got a question about that process.
Are you filling the tank with just hot water when you said you rinse and extract? Cause I came away from with
1. Spray carpets with carpet cleaner such as APC+ or Folex from bottle
2. Scrub carpets with a brush
3. Use LGM with clean water to rinse carpets of cleaner
4. Use LGM to suck water and dirt out of carpets.

Is that correct? I'm looking at getting a machine myself.

That's what I do with mine. I find that putting solution in the tank leaves too much solution still in the carpet. I try to use as little cleaner as possible to get the job done. The excess cleaner tends to dry up and harden the carpet.

I hand spray Meg's APC (not a foamy cleaner, which is good) at 10:1, agitate with a stiff brush (or medium depending on the fabric). Then I hit it with the hot water from the LGM, scrubbing while it extracts. Then I spray on Folex, agitate, then extract. If it's a mild day I put the extraction tool on the end of my shopvac with the filter removed. Seems like a long process but it really isn't, especially if all your gear is in easy reach.

I am sure that is what he is suggesting (at the risk of sounding like I know what I'm talking about). I have used a BLGM before and this was the process I used.

Cleaning carpets/fabric/upholstery isn't just about cleaning the surface, it is about leaving the surface clean...

When you extract with a soap solution you are going to leave some of that solution on the surface. So while you have cleaned the surface you have left it covered in a light residue of cleaning solution.

By extracting with water you are removing a huge amount of the residue, thus leaving the surface more clean. Not only will with fabric/carpet/upholstery have a more natural feel but it will attract less dirt, grime, etc.


IF a the material is so bad that I have to extract with a solution first, then I will let the material dry 3-4 hours for any wicking to occur (bringing the soap residues more to the surface) and do a final extract using just water.
 
I have the pet version and it works great. You can find them sometimes for as low as $60. Great investment if you are not doing this professionally or working on lots of cars per week.

That is what I do as well with mine. I had the same issue as well as the carpet being hard from the cleaner not completely coming out.
