Liquid Glass topper

Maybe you guys can settle this debate.

My dad is a die hard Liquid Glass man (oldschool, I know). I am trying to convince him that a topper of something like Collinite would further enhance his protection for the winter. He isn't buying it. I know the great results you can get with a carnuba topper over Klasse AIO, but can the same even be dome with the LG?

Just my $.02, but I'm with your dad.

In the early days, polymer sealants were more durable, but didn't have the depth of shine as carnuba waxes. But polymers have come a long way and everything objective that I've read is that the shine difference today isn't much and the durability is better with polymers.

Liquid Glass has it's own pre-cleaner (like AIO) suggesting it too is a sealent without cleaners. As such, I think dad would be better with a couple of layers of LG, vs. using any carnuba topper.

wouldn't the cleaners in LG remove the last layer of LG? I always thought LG had cleaners in it, i'm almost positive because my pad was always black when i used to use it back in the day.

I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE...

Like Klasse's AIO and SG, Liquid Glass ALSO has a separate Pre-Cleaner product they recommend before applying the LG product. This suggests to me that like SG, LG is a sealant doesn't contain cleaners like their cleaner product.

If your pad was black, maybe the surface was real dirty, rather then the product having any special chemical cleaners. The product carrier and the abrasive action of application may perform some cleaning.

IMO lets forget the protection for a minute. Liquid Glass, to me, has a very sterile look which can only be enhanced by a carnuba.

That's fine - everyone's entitled to an opinion about appearance - but the focus of this thread is about durability through the winter. Carnuba may look just a bit better, but it's generally agreed that carnuba is not as durable as the polymers.

Most good carnauba"s will hold up better in the winter better than in hotter summers...the wax itself forms a harder shell due to colder weather..plus makes a better sacrificial barrier to your sealant....I have used Collinite in the summer and lets say I get 8-12 weeks of durability..during the winter..I get 4-5 months or more...

Take a can of wax and set it in hot sun covered for a day...open it..it will be soft..now take a can and set it in a fridge at say 45 it will be harder than concrete..

So I think adding a coat or 2 of collinite over Liquid Glass will provide a very good durable coat of protection..plus add a barrier to the sealant so it remains protected by the elements...

And not all polymers are durable..depends on the quality of the ingredients..look at NXT for instance..nice product but not durable...Ice sealant..sux...

Yes, you can top Liquid Glass with a carnauba.

That's what I was thinking. I wasn't sure if the product itself would react well to being topped with carnuba. Thanx for the replies :2thumbs:

Generally agreed also that carnubas..such as Collinite...are longer lasting in winter months than "some" sealants and can add to their durability. LG...post VOC..from posts I have read could be better in winter months when topped with Collinite.
