Does anyone here have any links to some boat detailing sites.

We plan on doing a 40 FT boat that has a gel coat finish outside only.

This will be our first so any tips that yo may all have would come in handy.

Like what tools will we need and what polish would be best. A little outline on the procedure used for detailing the outside of the boat would be helpful too.

I don't know of any boat detailing sites, but this following link will show a boat NY detailer and I did not too long ago.

It's like polishing the surface of a car, but requires a different physical approach than polishing a car. First the scaffold, unless you are 10 feet tall, expect to use one. On a 40 foot boat, a PC or a rotary (if gel coat is in bad shape) it is necessary unless you have a week (ok a few days) to do it by hand.

Salt water also does a number on the chrome/metal trim. The PC with Blue Magic metal polish worked very well for that task.

Happy Detailing

I would not use carnuba wax on a boat though, it just doesnt last. That site will give you good advice on what you will need, just subsitute a good quality synthetic wax when someone recommends to use meguires flagship.

I use zaino on my boat, and my dad uses NU FINISH on his. Here is my old boat. I just sold it and got a different one....pics coming soon!

Thanks for the tips so far...

He was asking if it can be done in the water and I would not think that it could... unless he only wanted the top half done, that wasn't in the water.

You usually only detail the parts you can see when in the water...

Just remember, if it is in the water you'll either be hanging off the side or in a boat next to it... Should be quite fun :P

What about products to use? I would like to use the best if possible.

I was looking at some of the 3M offerings...

I am assuming that I would use a polish then a wax like a car?

Would a clay bar be of any importance when doing a boat? maybe only from the deck and up?
