License Plates

We received our plates today from DMV. Before I put them on, I am thinking about putting sealant and wax on. Is this a good idea? Do you put anything on them? I am concerned about damaging the stickers.

I wax all of my customers tags when I am applying wax to the wheels. I might help with salt, etc. I do this because it is part of the car, plus I can't stand to see a faded tag on a nice detailed car.

Seal and wax. No downside, makes em shine. Some would suggest it 'repels radar'. You can be the judge on that one!

Plates

If you REALLY want to protect them, may I suggest a license plate vault. These protect the plate to the extreme!

I have two chrome ones on my SC430.

There are many places to find these, but don't settle for cheaper ones, these are HEAVY!

Plate Vault

I think this is where I got mine:

Vaults

Wax on the plates is a good idea it looks pretty sad to have a shiny car but dull plates. I put the sticker on then waxed the plate. Figured that there will always be a sticker on the plates, so no need to protect the plate to make it easier to remove the sticker. As an aside, I also cut the sticker diagonally several times to discourage theft of the registration sticker.

I do not think I applied wax to the sticker as I was concerned that any solvent in the wax might erase the markings on the sticker.

I actually just got a new plate and sealed it with EX-P recently. I sealed then added the sticker. I got one of those new aluminum Ital plate frames, I'm not into those with the clear lenses over the plate.

Try those links now... I had to edit them while I was posting it last night.

I got them from Autoanything.com.
