Let's talk about Zaino!

I am one of the Zealots from the past. I have the whole Zaino line,I still consider Zaino to be some of the best products I have ever used. That being said Zaino lasts so long that I began to try other products especially the flavor of the month. I would suggest that you get the following. ZPC, Z5,Z2 ,ZFX ( I would not use Zaino without it ,just adds so much curing durabilty, looks) Z6 ,Z7 & Z8. Use ZPC then 2 coats ZFXed Z5 and 2 coats same of Z2 then Z8.

Right now I am loving Prima products theyare so easy to use and they look awesome.
I do Amigo then banana gloss then hydro. For up keep its ONR/BG/Hydro ( less than an hour)

PM me if you have any Zaino questions I feel their products are all top notch.

Methinks you have hit upon at least a couple of reasons. For a minute there was a forum by in large comprised of Zainoholics, Zaino maniacs, Zaino Zealots, or however you wish to refer to fans of the Zaino "system". They would go on (and on and on :)) about how infrequently they would "detail" because of the durability of the product. What I just never could understand is that they would refer to themselves as detailing hobbyists and I just never knew anyone who would so actively avoid a hobby they supposedly enjoyed. :D

I'm not going to knock the system or recommend it. If you use it and like it, great. If you've used and it didn't like it, sorry but as Setect mentioned above there are a plethora of products available to try.

:bigups :exactly:

I recall that forum. It was a lot of bragging about how little they touch their car. It was also the protest forum where those who did not like DavidB/Autopia went to gripe.

:autopia:

Well folks I first started using just the Zaino product line. I have since tried MANY different products. Some products I like, some not so much. What I have found is that every vehicle's paint is different. By using different products and learning how they work you can choose the correct tools to get the job done. In spite of the vendors marketing claims and sales pitch, IMHO one product line can't always do everything for everybody on every kind of paint all the time.

A short story...

Preface
Yesterday we did a BRAND NEW black Camaro. He ordered it and it was shipped direct to the dealership. I told him do NOT let the dealership wash it!!! He called them and even went there Monday before it arrived and made a point of letting them know he did NOT want them to wash the car when it arrives. "It is going straight to the detailer."

Chapter 1
He took delivery 9:30 Tuesday evening and brought it to me after he got off work Thursday evening. By the time he brought it to me it had just turned dark outside. I brought out the Brinkman to look at the paint and it was LOADED with swirls. I mean it was VERY BAD and they were everywhere! They were so bad he asked if I was using some kind "special" magic light to make the scratches appear. When he saw the condition of the paint his heart sunk. Mind you this car was two days old, he just paid over 40k cash and it had less than 50 miles on it.

Chapter 2
Fri am we began to wash. We squirted the car with a hose and the water just laid there.
It was dead. If I was a Doctor I'd say the paint was suffering from severe malnutrition.

Dawn wash, clay, washed again.
We did a test spot with the Megs DA MF cutting disc and D300 compound.
The DA MF cutting disc/M300 quickly removed the swirls but left a slight haze
We followed that with Menz PO106 and it removed the haze and added shine.
Then Zaino AIO to create a base and shine the paint up up a little bit more.
1) coat of Z-5 w/zfx
2) coats of Z-2 w/zfx

Chapter 3
When he came to pick up the car the first thing he saw was the Z-2 shine and the paint sparkled. Then he reached for my Brinkman on the table and went to look again. Now he knows what he's looking for after I showed him the day before. No swirls, just crystal clear shiny paint (less the orange peel). I could see a BIG smile on his face!

Epilogue
Although heavily swirled the Megs DA MF cleaned the GM paint very quick & easy.
It needed additional finer polishing step to bring out clarity after the DA MF/D300.
Not too thrilled with Z-AIO but it's probably good as a single step on a daily driver.
Why did I use Zaino? Brand new car, black paint, he's good peeps, Z-2 is very shiny.
Why not use something like Pinnacle Souveran?
He wouldn't know deep, warm Carnauba if it bit him in the a$$.

The End
Client happy.
Sorry no pics.
Z-2 shiny good.
It was a long day.

Exactly why I started to try other product lines. I enjoy doing my car every week . I do it every week wether I drive it or not. When i started trying different products from the Autopia faithful,I realized wow some of these products are fantastic. Some i can't live without now

ONR,OCW,OS
CK RMG,CMW,QS
All Prima products
Vics Chaos& their QD
CG WMF,BL,V7 & their ne QD

I think back then when people joined the forums ( especially Autopia ) they thought they new everything ( myself included) man was I wrong. I can't begin to tell you how much I learned.

Interesting thread. I had the same question a few weeks back. There are bunch of threads over on the GT-R forum (NAGTROC) touting the wonders of Zaino, especially for black cars. I couldn't ever get my head around all the different numbers and multiple steps needed. I almost tried it, but never had the energy to figure it all out.
Off topic but, Merlin, you found the Megs DA MF to be insufficient on its own? I have been thinking about going the DA MF route over the standard LC pads, but haven't made up my mind. I don't have a DA buffer as yet....

Z-2 w/ZFX
It's really pretty easy. Mix, apply, remove
Everybody wants to make it sound complicated.
Once you've done the Z-2 with ZFX a couple of time it's real easy to do.
Click the following link: How to Use Zaino

Mix - Z-5/Z-2 w/ZFX
Shake well - 2 minutes
Let it sit for 5 minutes
Very lightly mist a cotton applicator
Apply pea-to-dime size drop on applicator
Lightly apply thin slightly overlapping strokes.
Wait until dry (check with the swipe method)
Remove with soft 100% cotton towel.

No actually, the DA MF system kicks azz.
I have only used the DA MF cutting disc/M300

There is also a DA MF finishing disc and M301 finishing wax.
This brightens the finish with a finer SMAT abrasive and polymer wax.
I have yet to use this product but I have heard good things about it.

The PC 7424xp, Griots Garage 6" & the "brand new" Meguiar's G110v2 are all good tools.
You can never produce the type of results by hand that you can create with a machine!
Once you purchase a DA you will never look back!!!

Pick up a DA buffer and a Megs DA MF 5" kit. You'll love it!
You can always add 5" LC flat pads M105/M205 etc. later.

Merlin-
Thanks for the info. I am hoping on picking up a PC7424xp soon. I was going to couple that with the DA MF 5" system, but have heard a little bit chatter recently that the 300 may not be enough. That got me thinking about just going with a Blackfire system...hmmm...still haven't decided....

I have heard a little bit chatter recently that the 300 may not be enough.

I had great results on the new black Camaro with the DA MF cutting/D300
Zaino Z-5 is a little stubborn to remove. Z-2 comes off pretty easy.
Polished and finished with Zaino Z-5/Z-2 it came out sparkling crystal clear!

When Polishing: Always use the least aggressive method first!

In MOST cases the 5" DA MF cutting disc and D300 will get the paint correction done.
Followed by either the DA MF finishing disc and D301 or a finer "grit" polish of your choice.

I personally use
*) DA MF cutting disc and D300
Menz PO106 or PO85
Sealant/wax of personal choice

or if it's stubborn
*) M105 and 5" LC flat orange

or if it's real stubborn
*) M105 and Surbuf pad.

I would suggest to start...
1) DA buffer
1) Megs 5" backing plate.
2) DA MF cutting discs
1) Small bottle of D300
6) LC flat pads (6 pack package)
2] orange
2] white
1] black
1] Blue
1) Small bottle M105
1) Small bottle M205
2) 5" Surbuf pads

This way you should be able to try many products and cover all the bases.
Always do a 20" x 20" test section first to see what combo works on the paint.
Every paint on every car is different!

After removing the swirls...
A lot of folks get an LSP ready finish with just M205 using the Kevin Brown Method.
I like using M205 w/white 5" LC flat pad then Menz PO106/PO85 w/black 5" LC flat pad.
I feel the Menz PO106 or PO85 after the M205 kicks the polishing up another 10 to 20%.

Bottom line although I'm not a Zainophile....

I like Zaino products and they have a place on my shelf.
I currently have and use...

Zaino Blonde Borderfree Towel (Love 'em!)
Zaino Snow White Borderfree Towel (Great for removing Z-2 & Z-5)
Z-AIO All-in-one
Z-2 PRO Show Car Polish for Clear Coated Car Finishes (white towel)
Z-5 PRO Show Car Polish for Swirl Marks and Fine Scratches
Z-7 Show Car Wash
Z-6 Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray
Z-8 Grand Finale Spray Seal (Excellent product) - (blonde towel)
Z-9 Leather Soft Spray Cleaner
Z-10 Leather in a Bottle
Z-18 Clay Bar (real good stuff)
ZFX Flash Cure Accelerator Additive (use w/Z-2 and Z-5)

Z-2 does not have that deep warm carnauba look but it is REAL shiny!

They never seem to have any of those towels in stock. I have some of the Blonde that I'm saving for a special occasion, the Snow White I never tried but those who did said they were the same as some other edgeless flat weave towels. I was about to say that the Blonde towels were unique, but now that I think about it I got some (very expensive) Duragloss towels that were very similar...go figure...

I havnt been on here in quite some time. I had a cabinet full of different products and tried quite a few brands and flavors. I was one of those Zaino-holics. Now, 6 years later or so, my cabinet is so boring, its just all Zaino. Zaino works so well for me that I havnt bothered with any thing else. I have since moved my beloved Hummer to the garage and now detail even less frequently. I really dont even know what else is out there as of lately. I've been just using my Zaino and been quite happy. As far as cost, you use so little and spread it so thin that I have bottles from 4 years ago. My favorite and most versatile is probably the Z-6. It works great on glass. I actually havnt logged in on here in a long time and strated looking for Zaino threads. I had to use the search to find them. Not much chatter about Z anymore I guess. Z use to come up all the time.

Isn't that the whole point of detailing forums - to move and sell the latest and greatest product? Zaino is still a great product line, even if it's not pushed and promoted via the forums, PM's, and Emails these days.
