Leaving S/G on paint

Well I finally did my car and it looks awesome but the klasse s/g was a pain to remove and i was using the same mf i used to remove aio. It was getting dark out so I just took the big amounts off and then stopped and put my towels to wash again. There is still S/G on paint (haze) and I plan on putting another layer tommorow. I will NOT drive the car so should I just QD or something or do a quick wash and apply s/g again? What do you recommend a good qd is? Is the one that comes with Mother's claybar any good?

You need to wash the car first because there is going to be dust on it that is in the SG. The easiest thing to do will be to wash the car and try to get the remaining haze off that way and then put on your second coat.

Clay spray isn't really a QD. Its a little more soapy than a qd because it is a lube. If you are going to use a QD then get either Final Inspection or Meguiar's Quick Detailer. Those are both good off the shelf qds.

Hmmm.. All I have is an absorber and leaf blower to dry car with and a little scared to use it because I dont want to mar my paint more. :( I was going to order waffle weave towels from pakshak before I washed my car. Maybe I can let the car air dry?

??? What does drying have to do with it. I'm saying you need to actually get out there and wash it just like you were starting over from the beginning. Dry it with whatever you have. An absorber will work fine. Never let your car air dry because that causes water spots. You have an absorber and that is nearly as good as a waffle weave.

The QD that comes with the Mothers clay will work fine. It's their regular QD product you normally buy everywhere (called Showtime).

If you're having trouble removing SG, try applying it even thinner or use either a mist of water or the 2 towel (damp/dry) buffing method.

just curious... if you left sg on for a long time (a couple of days) would there be any negative effects?

only if you try taking it off without washing it first. Basicly the part you are buffin of is just excess product. The part that makes your car shine has already bonded and is doing its thing. I don't think anything negative will happen. I've buffed it off before and then come across areas where I missed it days later and I just QD it and it comes right off. No harm no foul.

Like Jman said there will be no negative effects from leaving the SG residue on your vehicle that long.

I have found the longer you let it sit on the paint the easier it is to buff off. A wet microfiber towel can help get some of the really hard SG off.

FWIW, I leave SG on my wheels without buffing (I apply it thinly). No deleterious effect on appearance and it sheds brake dust better & lasts longer...

The s100 paste wax helped alot taking the haze off and residue.

It took me 14 hours to

1.wash

2.dry

3.claybar

4.buff

5.dacp

6.buff

7.sec (helped take out dacp haze/residue)

8.buff

9.aio

10buff

11.s/g

this took 10 hours and then today

12.washed

13.dry

14.buff rest of s/g residue/haze (guess I applied to much)

15. s/g

16.buff

17wax s100

18.buff

Then I had to clean my winshield and mirrors because of the DACP splatter. Hint- Never lift PC off the car because it will splatter, always stop the machine on the surface.

Hmm...that could be the reason the DACP is leaving haze on your paint....you're not working it enough. By the time I left the PC off the paint, the DACP is all worked in and all I am left with is a powdery residue.

I've never seen it turn to powder. Normally the stuff that flips out of the pad is from where the pad absorbed the product. Kinda like spin drying it. You can work it in all you want but you are still going to get product spitting out if you have used too much along the way.

SG really needs to cure for 24 hours before you put anything on top of it. Even S100. The 24 hour rule is for everything and not just future coats of SG. Its just for best results. If you didn't notice any adverse appearance issues then you are probably ok. Maybe just for future reference though.

I always get a dry powdery residue with SMR and DACP. When I finish working a section, there is almost nothing to wipe off, it's mostly the dust. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I am working on dead paint most of the time, and it's the dead paint that's the residue.

I'll have to try it on my car with a clean pad and see if I still get the residue. :nixweiss

I never got the powder either just the product went away completly. I took my car out today and it rained and has waterspots now. Tommorow I'm going to buy some QD at pepboys or something to clean it off before it etches in paint.

PS. When I washed it I did the water sheeting method and was amazed on how much water it took out. If the car doesn't have a wax or sealent then it doesnt really sheet off. Drying is the worst thing I hate doing so it helps me alot.
