Leave dried Zaino on until next weekend wash ?

I am learning to apply thin coats of Z2. The trick seems to be using Z6 to dampen the applicator. In the past, I would win the award for using the *most* Z2 ... during my first time with Z2, I used *FOUR* ounces for a single coat !!!



Now by using the Z6 and several months of experience with Z2, I am able to spread a few drops of Z2 across a whole panel. This leaves an invisible film of Z2 (too thin ?). Can I leave this thin, un-noticeable film on the car until I wash the car again next weekend (using Z7) ?



The reason that I wish to do this is because detailing is *not* my preferred hobby. I can save time by eliminating the drying time and time to buff it off. I don't mind the slight film (which I can't see - too thin ?). It would Not be the entire car looking dull from the dried film .. it would be just a panel or two. I do a panel or two each weekend as part of a maintenance (rotation) schedule. After each weekend washing, I apply Z2 to one panel. Over a three month period, the car will had received a single coat of Z2. Then, the cycle starts over again.



Can I leave this thin, un-noticeable film on the car until I wash the car again next weekend (using Z7) ?

Well, I think I answered my own question about "too thin". It is NOT POSSIBLE to apply Z2 too thin !!!!



I used a CD case (jewel case). I tested applying the Z2 with a applicator moistened with Z6 just like I would on the car. I even tested using excessive Z6 with extremely small smudge of Z2. I applied it to the clear front of the CD case. I let it dry for a few minutes, then examined the surface under a bright light. There was a Z2 coating !!!!!! So, I am convinced that it can't be applied too thinly. By the way, I did test using just Z6 by itself (a control experiment) to see if the Z6 leaves a film... Z6 dries clear with no cloudy filrm. Thus, the cloudy film that dried on the surface in my Z2 experiments was indeed Z2. MUCHO THIN, but evenly applied. I highly recommend that you try this experiment yourself to test your application technique. The trick is to use Z6 or Z8 !!!! I tested Z8 too, and the Z8 performed equally to the Z6 for appling the Z2.
 
Sorry for no response No Traction! I'll do my best to answer. If you are using ZFX, which should give you a near instant cure this should be fine. If not, I don't think you will get the optimal bonding with Zaino if this is your first coat. The initial coat of Zaino requires ZFX or Z1 to properly adhere, or bond, to your car. Waiting a few days to wash (with Z7 I presume) should be fine. A Z8 or Z6 wipe down immediately after the Z application would be fine as well. Either way, let us know how it turns out.

No, not my first time with Z2. The first time I applied Z2 w/ zfx, I did an IPA wipe down. I have learned that Z2 is sensitive to bonding onto other stuff. Even Z-PC will prevent a good bond of Z2 !!!!
 
Do you think the following will be OK: I have a number of Z2 layers on the car but have some swirls I want to get rid. My pan is to: Wash, clay IP & FPII w/ pc then 3 coats of Z5Pro w/ ZFX
 
I would buff off the dried Z2 prior to driving. This should take no more than 15 minutes. No harm will occur with the dried Z2 remaining on for a week if vehicle is not driven. I believe you will have some funny optics if you leave the Z2 on and drive your vehicle. Similiar to a poor "wax" job optics. Light bouncing off in all kind of weird directions. :nixweiss.
 
I too would buff it off before driving. It's too simple to remove to leave it on and take any chances. If the car sits, it shouldn't be a terrible problem ( has anyone even tried this???) but you run risk if you drive. Dust,grime and contamination will get imbedded in the Zaino film and when you remove it, you run the risk of marring the surface.



And you answered your other question; no such thing as too thin. :grinno:
