Leather vs Vinyl - How to tell??

I sometimes have trouble trying to tell which parts of the interior are leather and which parts are vinyl.:nixweiss Does anyone have any tips, tricks, rules-of-thumb, or suggestions? At the moment, I just clean everything I'm not sure about with leather cleaner, assuming that is the least aggressive; but on some surfaces I'm than stuck trying to figure out whether to use a vinyl protectant or leather conditioner.

This has been discussed recently on the forum (sorry I am not sure where I read them).

The understanding is that the true leather parts of the car seats are where your body rests against (the bottom, backrest, head support). The vinyl parts are generally the sides of the seat. The doors usually have real leather when that is an option for the vehicle. I would not worry about using the leather conditioner on these parts as I and others have been doing so.
