Leather question

I have a 03 G35 that has black leather. I clean it using Mothers two step process (cleaner then conditioner). I like the way it looks but when i sit on the seats they become very slippery!

I'm wondering if some leather seats have some type of coating to protect it? Plastic coating maybe? The conditioner really doesn't seem to soften the seats but just make them slick.

Most leather used in automobiles is coated leather (like a clear coat for paint). Different leather products give different results. Lexol and Four Star tend to leave a grippy feel behind whereas Pinnacle, AutoGlym, Target purchased Zymol (very nice stuff, IMO), etc., tend to leave the leather fairly slick.

You're right some leathers have a gel coating. The best and easiest way to tell is put some water droplets on your seats and see if the water gets absorbed. If it does then you don't have the coating . Most of the gel coats I've seen have only been on domestic vehicles. Your G35 is most likely not coated .

Different brands of conditioners give different results.

IMO ;
Lexol conditioner = seems sticky or tacky

4Star= supple soft feel with leather smell ( my personal favorite )

Armor all wipes = very slippery..

HawaiianElement,
where do you get your 4*? I live in hawaii too. By the way does the 4* cleaner require you to use water and a bucket? or is it just a wipe on wipe off product. Thanks.

Keep in mind that you are talking about two products, a cleaner that you follow up with a conditioner.
Check this link for more information.
I don't happen to use the cleaner, but I do use and really like the conditioner.

(I hope i don't get admonished for this):

Try using Adams Leather Conditioner. I've found it to be very non greasy and not too shiney.

I agree with you. I think it's a very nice product. :bigups

I have the same car and the same color leather. I've been using Lexol with great results - it's a 2 step process as well, but leaves a nice finish - a little tacky but it works great.

I've actually used the Lexol on all my leathers - coats, shoes, etc. Works great and makes it nice and soft.
