Leather Problem

Hello, my dad's car has very soft leather, its a lexus GS. He got a new leather jacket and the die rubbed off and onto his leather surfaces. Any ideas on how to remove it, I tried searching but didnt find any solutions. Thanks

You can try Zaino Leather Soft Cleaner or a very mild solution of Woolite and water. Use a microfiber towel and scrub lightly. That should remove most of the dies from your jacket.

I will try the above methods even though I heard that woolite does not work. I doubt zaino leather cleaner will either. Are there any risks in putting diluted alcohol on leather?

General leather cleaners will not remove this type of problem. Dye transfer has basically redyed the leather and the longer it sits on the leather the deeper it travels into the leather finish and the harder it is to remove. You need to use something like LM Rapid Cleaner S or Maxi Cleaner which are products that were designed specifically for this problem to have any chance of success. If these do not work it is not because the product is no good but because the problem is no longer a cleaning one, then you have to resort to stronger products like alcohol cleaner (use a specific leather one) or solvent based products. The problem then is that you are in danger of removing pigment/finish which will then have to be replaced. It is always improtant to remove as much dye as possible before recolouring to ensure that the dye does not come back through the new colour.

Hope this helps

Judyb & sfa500,

My bottle of Maxi just arrived. I'll be trying out tomorrow on my Lexus ISF white leather has the same leather as the GS and the same issue of leather to leather die transfer. Hopefully, the Maxi will work a miracle. I'll take some before and after pics.
