I would try to get your hands on a steamer. Wrap a mf around the end and have a go at it.

we have a steam mop, has a 6"x10" face, which would fully cover the hard patch. not fancy, but steam at the push of a button.
First though I would love to know what can cause this kind of reaction in the leather. That seems critical for figuring out the solution.

I also vote for a steamer type of application.
This should penetrate the leather enough to soften the area, so you can wipe the product that was spilled on there off.
I have never injured a leather surface with my steamer, just dont hold it on there too long.
Its just water anyway, so its really hard to hurt leather with steam as long as you do your due diligence, and have towel/s on hand to wipe it dry, etc..
Then be sure to re-treat that area/s with your leather conditioner of choice.
I recently read a post here that came from someone who queried Woolite about using their product on leather and they said to absolutely not use it, because its very difficult to remove all of their product from the leather without lots of water to rinse it all out.
It's hard to determine what would cause this, except something spilled on it or was set on that spot - perhaps something really hot?? I have seen coffee/latte' spills on fabric and carpets and they always dry really hard..
Does the spot smell like anything that you can recognize?
Perhaps others who have dealt with this exact scenario will check in and share their experiences soon..

I'll one better that, after no smell I went a step further and applied my tounge (I'd just cleaned with both hot water and woolite plus the only butt in that seat is mine) and nothing. I'm guessing this is water related not something chemical.

Good job - eliminating something chemical is definitely a plus here.
I detailed a gorgeous Black Volvo Wagon- believe a 2008, and the leather in there was absolutey beautiful quality. I am amazed that something would be able to penetrate it in the first place.
Good luck with this, will keep thinking about it too, and hopefully soon as some of these guys come in for a break from the job, they will post up more advice, experiences that will help, etc..

We actually have a 2010 wagon too, which has the same leather as the 2008. The leather in both is a step above the leather in the earlier cars. I have done a poor job caring for the 2003 as it hasn't always been ours. But the 2010 is ours from new, so going to be taking incredible care of it. But that is a different thread, soon.

OMG!! Your tongue??? That had me laughing at the memory of that movie (don't remember the name) where the pathologist has the medical students in the hospital morgue and puts his finger in a vail of piss and goes on to say how he could determine different things about the man. One of the students drinks the piss and says "it just tastes like piss to me". The pathologist shows his sleight of hand where he put one finger in the vial and a different one in his mouth! Classic scene!!!

Well, that's going the extra mile. I was wondering what was all over my rocker panels after a drive through Amish country but I wasn't tempted to get that close to try and identify it.
