Leather conditioner Question

I have to detail a new F-150 King Ranch edition that has some dark leather seats. What kind of conditioner do I use? I don't want to mess these bad boys up!

I use Griots leather care. It doesn't darken the leather too much and restores the feel and the smell. Put it on thin and work in into the leather, wait a few minutes then "buff". It doesn't really put a shine on the leather, just removed the residual product that didn't get worked in.

I know that not all of the Griot's product are too good, but this one is a winner

Until I get some advice from Ford or from a person that has treated these seats before I'm not gonna touch them. I don't think they'd be cheap to replace!

Can't help with specifics on this one but anytime I run across something I'm unsure of I test on a small, "inconspicous" area and wait awhile and do something lese and come back and check. Now I know why so many products state this:D . Yeah you definetly don't wanna learn the hard way with those. As far as cleaning woolite/water is about as mild as you can get. Spray a touch of water on it and see if it beads or soaks in, if it beads its coated and I'm pretty sure any good leather conditioner would work. Hope that helps:xyxthumbs. But maybe with some experience with that particular leather can chime in.

ahhh the king ranch leather i love the feel of this stuff :) actually there is a leather conditioner for thess seats in particular. i got some deep down in my detailing supplies somewhere. look on ebay i think i remember seeing some of it. but i can recall the stuff aint cheap when i bought a bottle of it. but ti works like a charm though.

a quick search on ebay came up with this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...tem=7979941248&category=50450&sspagename=WDVW this is the stuff i got.

king ranch leather is almost feels like saddle leather its real thick. i think the real name of it is castano leather.

I myself have a kingranch (hence the name), and the best stuff I've found is called Leather CPR . It works wonders with my leather, and you can even pick it up at a Petsmart (provided they have a horse section). I believe you can find other places that sell it from the website.

It doesn't darken it any does it? This truck is brand new (and unfortunately sitting in a salty Cameron Dock with ZERO paint protection!)

I think my best leather products are the Z-9 and Z-10 from Zaino. They just clean great and have a great leather smell. :xyxthumbs

These seats are brand new, they don't need cleaning, just conditioning. Noboday has even sat in any seat but the drivers.

Kingranchman, what color is your truck? I'm trying to decide on KSG or Wolfgang SG for this truck. Its a shame, but its going to spend half of its life sitting at a salty Sea-side dock so I'm leaning toward KSG for its durability.

I'm in the process of restoring and conditioning my Alfa's leather and can highly recommend Leatherique on non-finished leather.

Leatherique is totally different in its makeup and usage to *regular* leather products.

From their website: http://www.leatherique.com.au

"Why is Leatherique better?

It treats the full depth of your leather, not just the surface, leaving it soft and clean,

it's a leather care system designed to restore and maintain the health of your leather,

it's made with natural products, based on an old Swedish recipe,

it's not a cosmetic product concerned with appearance alone,

it's not spirit-based, so does not dry your leather,

it was found (Rejuvenator Oil), by an independent laboratory study observed by Richard M. Langworth, publisher of Car Collector Magazine, to contain 9 times more natural animal oils and beneficial ingredients than any other leather care product on the market...

Described as "Simply the Best" for leather by the Rolls Royce Owners Club of USA, since 1968. This is the original formula; a patented, pH-correct blend of natural oils, fats and Collagen to nourish and maintain healthy leather, restore luxurious suppleness and add new life to tired leather. Our formulation will restore cardboard-hard leather. It does not contain greasy oils or cheap watery fillers, waxes, Siliconesess, or mineral oils. Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil deeply conditions and softens your leather while bringing ingrained dirt to the surface. Our product is not a surface dressing as are many leather treatments, but treats the full depth of the leather. It is a pleasure to use and gives unsurpassed results. Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil is the preferred choice of museums, restoration shops, and do-it-yourself enthusiasts...

Other leather treatments may contain:

Siliconeses oil or sealers that harden the leather surface and promote cracking. The leather loses its ability to "breathe", which is what makes it so comfortable to our touch.

Beeswax - great for saddles and boots where waterproofing is desirable, but gives a clammy feel when used on leather car seats and leather furniture.

petroleum, mineral, neatsfoot, or lanolin oils, which can encourage rotting of leather fibres and stitching...
"

Leatherique Prestine Clean is both a cleaner and conditioner.

To *clean* soiled leather one applies Rejuvenator Oil until it soakes it up into the hide which pushes out any dirt/impurities. Then the impurities are cleaned off the surface with Pristine Clean.

After the leather is cleaned/restored you use Prestine Clean quarterly to clean surface impurities and condition the leather. It can also be used to clean vinyl and rubber.

Uh, the Zaino products do this also.

This is more marketing hype to justify Leatherique's premium pricing.
