...not sure I buy into this whole line of thinking that any leather conditioner is bad. How has it survived this long if it doesn't work at all, as you say, judyb?
Most modern cars have "coated" leathers and are no longer truly "Tanned" (save for the high-end cars).
Zaino is fine to use; don't be afraid of it; as the surfaces still need to be cared for; however they act more like vinyl rather than leather now.
I've had fine luck using Kiwi Saddle Soap (for tougher cleanings) and Pooboy's Leather Stuff for general maintenance. I never really let me seats "dry out"; so conditioning really isn't a huge issue for me.
The Zaino products do smell quite nice and are known to work well.
If you want something that just has a UV protectant and light cleansers; Poorboy's Natural Look dressing may work well for you. It dries to the touch and leaves no greasy residue. You can also dilute it slightly; I've found that works better for me (just use water).
I've been using this on two Ford trucks that sit outside (year round) for the past 5 years; I get comments on how the seats look and feel new all the time. Ford uses notoriously cheap/thin leather that is dyed and likes to wrinkle and crack really easily on the outer panels. Mine look about as new as you could ask for and are soft/supple and have retained their color.
