Leather care...I'm a NOOB to leather

i'm about to pick up a new ride and it has leather seats. I've done a few cars with leather but I just squirted some combo cleaner/conditioner on the seats and worked it in. Now I have my own to work on and I want to keep them looking the best. I've looked into PB Leather Stuff and its a cleaner/conditioner combo but it seems to me that you would be rubbing dirt and such right back into the seat. It makes more sense to me to use cleaner with one MF and then apply the conditioner with another....does that make sense or am I a wackjob?

I'm also looking for something WITHOUT the leather scent Leather smells good and everything but I don't to smell that all the time. Any recommendations for some leather cleaner and conditioner that I can get at Advanced Auto Parts or AutoZone? I will look into other stuff once it gets closer to my b-day or if I run into some money for some more detailing supplies. I don't want to spend money on a product and then spend more money just to have it sent to me.
 
Of what is available "OTC" from a local parts store, I'd go for the Lexol twins (pH cleaner, and conditioner). They aren't cheap, but they're good.

If you want to order something, I recommend Zaino Z9 and Z10 cleaner and conditioner. The conditioner does have a leather smell, but I've found that the smell isn't obtrusive or anything.
 
Assuming your new ride is the Mustang Mach I, it should have *coated* leather seats. I find that Lexol tends to leave a tacky finish on coated seats. Because most conditioners cannot get through the coat on top of the leather, IMO you are just as well off using a vinyl/rubber protectant on the leather.
 
I like Poorboy's Natural Look on coated leather. Has the colour been beat into the Mustang leather? If so, the colour will last longer, and the only concern is not using a cleaner that will dry it out.

I agree 100% about the OTC stuff. Hard to beat the Lexol.
I myself use Meg's Aloe Cleaner to first clean my leather and then use the CG's Leather Conditioner.

You don't like the leather smell?


The only kind I can think of is Meguiar's Aloe Cleaner/Conditioner. They both work very very well, but smell like aloe instead.

True, though if it isn't "brand new," there may be some spots where the coating has worn off. It doesn't take long for that to happen on side bolsters and areas that are rubbed over frequently -- it might not even be noticeable to one's eyes, if they've kept it conditioned. What I usually do with any leather conditioner is to apply it, give it a half hour to soak up what it's going to, and then come back to buff the rest off with a dry MF towel.

That is exactly what i do. I use one of the MF Sponge applicators to apply it with. And for the Aloe Cleaner i simply use a MF towel.

is leather stuff from poorboy;s a better choice for high end mercedes, bmw leather ? or should i stick to 4* & pinnacle, wolfgang ?
 
Does anyone know if my Tahoe (03) has these coated leather seats? I would guess yes.

I tried the 6:1 (water to woolite) on the seats last night. It did not dirty the white towel at all. I mean- the seats are really clean, but I would think I would get some dirt of them after 3 years of use.

Then I followed up with Zaino Leather in a Bottle. I'll get some pics up I guess.

I would start out with ME CLEAN MAGIG ERASER and then yop with conditioner and protectant of your choice. :boxing:
 
Meguiars Aloe cleaner then Use the Aloe conditioner.
when you get the leather clean to your liking then use Meguiars cleaner/conditioner in one to main the leather.

btw The leather scent in PBs Leather Stuff only last 3-4 days and is not over powering.
