Leaf Stains on Paint

Hi guys,

new to the forum. i had big problem with tree leaf stains on the paint.

i did some searching i think for the winter i am gonna use fk1000p. is there anything comparable i can look at? i would like to wax 2 a year if possible.

will this protect the car from tree leaf stains in the future or make them easier to remove?

i looking for something with durability and able to protect the paints finish from sap, tar, etc.... shine is secondary importance to me?

any suggestion and tips for a newbie detailer?
 
sk55- IME the FK1000P does do very well with regard to the things you asked about. While no LSP can always protect against such stuff 100%, and how long that stuff remains on the paint can sure factor in, the Fk1000P still provides better protection for me than anything other LSP I've tried.

Twice annually might work out OK depending on your conditions, but IME the trick is to refresh it before it obviously needs done; a quick coat (even without claying/prep) as soon as you notice some kind of change (beading/slickness/anything that could indicate it's getting weak) is often worth doing and if you just do the panel(s) that seem to need it the refreshing it oughta go quickly/easily enough at the end of a regular wash.

hi Accum,

i got most of it using a random orbital and meguiar cleaner wax seems like the best product so far to remove leaf stains...

what type of foam pad should i be using? i have a foam pad right now, not sure what type though...

Ron, do you dilute Bug Squash or use it straight?
I diluted it with success, but need to try full strength on tar.

I did learn last winter that it also removes salt well but never just soray & rinse it off.
You need a good hand wash after treating or you get water spots all over the glass and panels. (Ask me how I know...lol)

3/1 for normal use
50/50 heavy duty (remember at this strength it will strip wax/sealant) 50/50 should work for tar, but may want a squirt of apc as well.
 
Yikes, I'd sure hate to use something that'd require rewaxing...LSPing my vehicles is a job and I don't want to do it more than a few times annually.

Eh, that meguiar's cleaner wax isn' the most user-friendly stuff, and you gotta keep it off trim. But hey, if it's working then OK.

What foam pad are you asking about...for use with which product?

well meguiar cleaner wax seems to remove minor tar stains, as well.. do u have a goto product thats trim friendly that remove leaf stains and tar stains as well? something you can wipe away and doesnt have to be rinsed off.

Sorry, I've just never had enough of a problem with such stains to have to give it any real thought. Such stains/etc. basically just come off with a regular wash for me, other than tar which I take off with a very gentle claying (while I wash). This is the sort of problem I'm eager to avoid, which is why I use the LSPs/Trim Sealants/etc. that I do ;) If I couldn't just wash a vehicle for a *LONG* time, with no special efforts being required, then I'd switch products/approaches; no way am I gonna do some big production on a regular basis.
 
For me a Dawn wash then Menzerna SF-3800 polish will prep the surface. Then apply your FK1000P wait 4 hours and apply another coat.
 
Most leaf stains are from the tannic acids leaching from the leaf when it gets wet. The oak, maple, and other hardwoods in the upper Midwest are notorious for this. It's the reason that stream's and river's water have that darker brown "root beer float" look to it, especially apparent near waterfalls.
