Layering Wax (pix inside)

I heard layering wax does not do much because when you put on one layer it takes off the other?

It depends on the product. I feel that pastes make better candidates for layering because they tend to have less solvents (for ease of use) than liquids. Usually though, even with liquids you are probably leaving more behind than you are taking off.

Pure Waxes (carnauba wax w/o cleaners) Will Layer! Wax blends, such as cleaner waxes (Gold Class, collinite-sp,) will not layer effectively because of the cleaning properties blended in with the wax (carnauba) mix.

P21s, Pinnacle, Zymols, and any other pure wax will layer effectively if done with care. P21s layers especially well.

Keep on going. Remember, the thing to keep in consideration when layering is Control. You do not want to go too heavy at one time. Layer (deposit for naysayers) s_l_o_w_l_y. Take your time and put on one coat per session. If you do this (I think you know this already), then you should have a slick as silk finish. How much wax you feel you will need may depend somewhat on the lsp that you use. Some waxes pack a heavy punch early, so it may not require a lot of putting on to get a slick surface. Other waxes need a lot of encouragement to get a performance from.

It is also important to keep the surface as clean as possible, and use a detail spray between thirds or every other coating, so as to keep the layerings thin, and also to keep out pre-mature hazing or oxidation.

Also remember....no matter how much you pile on............all of that good stuff eventually has to come off!!! So do it in moderation! Happy Waxing!

PS: Redundant maybe, but once the wax is on, do not put glazes, "all in one(s)" or a cleaner wax on top of your waxed finish. If you do, then as the naysayers will put it, you will not be layering. You'll be in a perpetual cleaning mode! Lol!!

Thanks for all the great info :woot:

I am confident in my waxing skills, lol and also wouldnt plan on stripping my nice wax with AIO as it is a polish :)

What is this about SG not being good. OF course its good, it may not keep the Ultimate shine alive but protects the paint 2x as good as any wax, it also lasts about 5 times longer than a paste wax (about 6 months).

Not sure where that one came from :faint:

Well then there's your compromise. You said in your initial post that something was missing with regards to looks. In fact this is what you said:

Car looks great I guess, but a point is reached where you just want to make you paint look even better

Driven-528e was giving you a suggestion to improve the aesthetic appeal at the expense of protection. SG is nice. But it still looks plasticky to me. If all you cared about was how it looked, try skipping the SG, or try a Glaze before waxing.

If you want something nicer looking than what the Klasse twins allow, you can probably try JW's Prime and AJ, FK1's 215 & 2180 or Menzerna's AJ and FMJ, and then go crazy layering the Souveran.

...I still think it looks just fine and you're fretting over nothing.

If it's prepped correctly, a fresh coat of Souveran paste over black is about as good as it gets.

I appreciate your opinion and although yes I want/need somthing else to create more of a shine the qustion was more of a "What else can I add, to make the paint look better". See I dont wanna risk protection of my paint for looks, (even though its very important to me) so I guess I was just wondering what I could add to the paint.

Thanks

no...Jessica Simpson....OhMYGAWD shes so flippin hot. Jessica Alba is pretty hot as well, but jesus Jessica is like godess material :tribe: :tribe:

I'm planning on doing AIO-3 or 4 layers of SG- Sonus acrylic spritz then sonus acrylic glaze. Would wax improve the look of the paint further or would it just cancel out the effect of the spritz and glaze?

Sure anytime. I didn't really have an opinion about SG. If you like that as an lsp then by all means indulge. Synthetics behave somewhat differently than Carnauba Wax, however, so just keep that in mind if you compare it to a carnauba finish. If SG is layerable, then you can use that product as much as you like.

For me, it is the look on black. Seems to give a silvery sheen when you see the car from an angle.

What you might want to try is AIO + NXT Paste x 2, wait 24 hours then start alternately layering Carnauba Jett and Meguiars #16 (or Natty's Blue). That should get your paint as black and deep as it is going to get.

Another alternative is Clearkote's RMG topped with CMW and add a layer of Carnauba Jett after each wash for a month or so.

This is CMW, Carnauba Jett and Natty's Blue (in that order, I believe) on my 626.

I read about layering wax here so I decided to try it with what I had lying around. It definitely looked nicer after the 2nd layer. I don't know if this is because of the different wax or because I layered them though. I put a layer of Meguiars Gold Class over a Layer of NXT, both liquid. This isn't the best picture, but it's all I have uploaded.

What properties add Nattys Blue and Jett to the CMW base?

I thought that the finish related with CMW and the obtained with Nattys were very similar...

Thanks !!
