I've got a question for all those out there who have experimented with or consistently use FK1 waxes. Specifically regarding the 1000P and Pink waxes, as I just recently acquired a tin of each. I've read in a few places that the Finish Kare waxes can be layered after only a short curing time? Rather than the standard 12-24 hrs people give as a general cure time, FK1 products can be successfully layered after 20-40 minutes (what I've read). So for those that have tried it, do you feel it was successful? would you have gotten more protection had you waited do you think? Did the looks change after a second layer or third layer in the same day? I know these are very subjective questions, still I'd like to hear peoples opinions.

You can go initially with 3 layers, no problem. You can leave it to rest for a few days. If you want to apply more, go and do it after a week. You can apply the FK1 stuff in Z-style with 425/146 wipedowns between layers (2180, 1000P or even Pink).



Generally they are the longest curing products in my arsenal so they are definitely changing their appearance. Immediate improvement is still there though.



With FK1 sealants you have better protection when you apply more layers; especially 2180 on old, permeable finishes. Newer paints are much more forgiving but it is recommended to do at least 2-3 coats, and you have to work it into the paint slowly, very meticulously. It can be grabby at times with hand applicators, so they are not the easiest products to work with. I definitely recommend a DA application (1st coat @ speed 2; VERY slow arm speed, moderate pressure, 2nd coat @ speed 3, light pressure, 3rd coat speed 4, no pressure). Leave the coats a bit longer than recommended on the bottle. 30 min to 1 hour will be enough. Each subsequent layers will be easier and easier to apply.



With 1000P, a thicker application may result in difficult removal, but Pink was always easy for me.
 
generally speaking:

I used to be a big layering fan. I've adjusted my view soemwhat. Layering is good for sealants, since you only do them a few times a year. But don't go overboard like the time I did 30 layers in a month. More than 2 or 3 layers is allot of unecessary rubbing on the paint.

With regards to waxes more than two layers is not something I do anymore because waxes attract and hold dust and other contaminants. Your paint is protected by the sealant underneath so no problem in that department but all that surface accumulation getting into your wax dulls the finish.

Best to do a few layers boost it for about 6 weeks with a spray gloss and then strip it with Clay Bar.

You don't want exposed layers hanging around too long.

I waited nearly threemonths before polishing with Prime Strong and the results on just a polish alone were incredible. You will still have a reflective finish with an old wax sitting on your paint but it will lose allot of its brightness.

p.s.

definitely coat the 1000P or Pink Wax with 425. It will preserve the 10/10's shine longer than exposed wax.
 
Bence - Thanks for the response. I was hoping you'd see this one, I've read many of your posts on Finish Kare products and you seem to be something of an expert on them. I'll definitely use your suggestions on the PC application of the products. It is nice to hear that I can put three coats on in a day. That will come in handy.



Racingbeat - 30 Coats?!? :shocked

I have no intentions of accumulating nearly that many! I'm interested in the layers mostly for vehicles of friends and family that I don't have consistent access to. I'll probably only have access to the cars for a day at most, so it would be nice to wash, clay, polish, wax, vacuum, wipe down the vinyl, add another layer of wax, shampoo the carpet add another layer and call it a day. That sort of process.



Sadly I didn't order any 425 as I currently have 3 gallons of #34, a gallon of Last Touch, and a gallon of AquaWax. :o Gotta thin out that stash before I order more...



Now where is tdekany... I think I recall reading that he uses some of this stuff... :)
